I pick up the morning newspaper , this is what I read. All Ohio streams, and lakes remain under a mercury warning. Want to fish, fine --- just do not eat them , or if you do , eat only one fish meal a week. Ok, just what I want to do -- poison myself just a little bit at a time. It goes on to say that if your under 6 or pregnant not to eat any at all. Now I may be short sighted -- but instead of spending millions over in Iraq " to improve their way of life" or "spending billions on the space thing" let's fix it here first. |

I agree on the "space thing" but the money spent in Iraq was not to "improve their way of life"--it was to keep OUR way of life stable by maintaining the flow of oil at market prices. If you really want to fish, and don't mind travelling a bit, you are welcome to come and fish in my pond. I promise it is some of the best fishing you will ever find. [:)] |

Testing of fish for contaminents is a tricky business. It all depends on how the fish were tested. I use to be in the fish biz, and when the state came out with advisories on eating sport fish( walleye and perch), we went and had an independent lab test these species for us. We provided the lab with fillets of the 2 species, and the results came back WAY below guidelines. Turns out when the state tests fish, they grind the entire fish up, then preform the tests. This is not an accurate test, as I, and am sure most people, do not eat the entire fish. Now, I'm not going to eat carp, buffalo, etc, out of a river(bottom feeders), but am not against filling the smokehouse from time to time with cats and bullheads. |
