[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Flak Jacket

At the fun show 2 weeks ago and 2 tables had British flak jackets for sale. Very tacticool look but uses? What would a flak jacket (really a vest) stop? Shotgun pellets? I dont have any idea. Heavy as hell. The tacticool vests are much lighter but they dont have any protection just built in mag pouches, pistol holster and molle loops for days. What says the hive?

I don't know about the British flaks but PASGT vests can stop some pistol rounds depending on the condition and how the panel was stitched. Even so they are a very bad choice if you can get rated armor. If not they would be better then nothing I guess.

The older OD British vests used ballistic nylon IIRC.

Not worth it for anything more than, at best, a 9 mm round, and there are lighter US body armors that do better than that. Flak jackets stop flak and thats about it.

flak jackets are for shapnel. they might stop 9mm. they are realy good if your worried about the punkass kids next door throwing firecrackers in your window
