Recently, I was on a flight coming home from Europe. It was a Scandinavian Airlines flight.  When I could, I leaned back my chair to get some needed shut eye.  About 5 minutes later one of the flight attendents told me to move my chair up because the tall Danish guy behind me felt too crammed. She did not even say "sorry" or "please" and offer no compensation.  The tall Danish guy got to lean his chair back and sleep, but I could not. I felt sorry for the guy being crammed, but it isn't my falt.

Anyway, my question is could I tell the flight attendant to go to hell and disobey her "order".  The flight attendents tell us that Federal law says we must comply with them. It was an international flight, but inbound to the US, so I'm not sure if Fed law applys.  If it would be illegal to refuse to comply in this situation, what kind of trouble could I get in (both domestic and internatioal flights)

"Please ask him to move to a different seat--his rights do not supercede mine."

I don't know the legal ramifications of this.

You must obey all crew member instructions.

You should have offered to change seats with Stretch Armstrong.

You have to obey the flight crew.  If you tell the attendant to FOAD she'll tell one of the flight officers and he'll come back and tell you to obey, if you still don't you stand a chance of being arrested and charged with interfering with the flight crew in the operation of the plane (I forget what the exact wording is) and you'll be in trouble.  You'll also be blacklisted and might have trouble getting future flights.

At least that's what people have told me that have messed with attendants to the point they have to get an officer to come order you to do something.

It sucks being tall and in coach.  I'm 6'4" and I've NEVER asked the attendant to make the person front of me move their chair upright.  That being said, I've placed my knees in such a fashion that they couldn't move it back and I've had the attendant move me to a row with no seats in front of me when they've complained.

But I usually ask for a seat in front or by the exit door, where I'll have some leg room.

God I hate flying!  Even worse than the seat thing are peoples kids who scream and cry endlessly and they just ignore them.

I agree.

I'm assuming they didn't say you were receiving a seat in a row that the seats did not recline ?  if thats the case, they owe you some sort of compensation IMHO

Thanks.  I had a feeling that's what would happen, but I wasn't sure.

I hate flying

My reaction: Why couldn't the guy just tap you on the shoulder and ask you politely, instead of summoning the "authorities"?

Does he also call the cops when his neighbor's leaves blow in his yard?

I guess you did say he was from that socialist utopia known as Denmark....

Yep, everyone else around me was reclining and get some sleep.
