MSN no longer hosts FS2002 online.... or any of the CFS series.

Anyone know where you can go online with FS2002 now?

I'm still stuck at the gate.......

Roo, check an actual flightsim site.  These sites have mulitplayer sections in their forums.

Avsim
Simflight

FS2002 is dated.  They're up to FSX (10) now, with FS2004 (A Century of Flight) Before that.  They're not going to keep supporting older versions.

I don't believe MS hosts multiplayer anymore.  Maybe their new FSX works though an MS server, but I don't think so.  The majority of MSFS users eventually end up on VATSIM or IVAO.  They have a host of features to simulate real world ops, such as controllers and accurate procedures.

Anyhow, MSFS 2002 is ancient.  MSFS 2004 aka FS9 has been out for about 3 years and is the main sim everyone uses now.  I'm on FS9, however, I don't multiplay so I can't really comment too much on it.

FSX, the new sim, just came out last month, but don't run out and buy it without checking out the forums at Avsim and maybe trying the demo.  FSX runs like shit on anything less than the latest and greatest technology, as most MSFS programs do when they're new.  I think FSX is much worse than previous versions in terms of performance.  FSX doesn't include any of the features a lot of people wanted, like better ATC and AI.  No navigational data was upgraded, and the various problems left over from FS9's weather are still there.  What they gave us were moving cars, birds, ground animals (Africa - elephants, ect..) and new photorealistic terrain.  Other visual improvements were made as well, but nothing that important to me.  It also includes missions, which are just scripted game play.  I think it's really a flop overall.

WOW Thanks Guys!!!!!!

I will try that out
I download planes from www.simviation.com
great utlities too.
MSN does not host FS at all or CFS series.
The MD80 and 727's are my favorites to fly.
I also really dig the Bombardier CRJ700 and DC-9
Anyone else think those are cool planes?

I havent bought FSX, still waiting to see what ppl think, from what I have heard, it's not as great as FS2002 or 2004

FSX made to be "played" with XBox controller??? That tells me it isnt serious.
Also from what I have read it chokes most systems.
I am avoiding FSX for now.
Happy with my 2002 and 2004
I download planes from the net and usually fly those, they're better than the MS planes.
I wish ATC was better and the AI
Nav sucks.

This is SOP for any new MS Flight Simulator. It's like they make them for the next generation computer.

The FSX demo runs fine on my system once everything's cached. And, yes, the presentation is much more game-like than it used to be. Menu music reminds me of Crimson Skies. Die hards I know hate it so far, if only for the missing online components. Then again, they've also hated every other iteration on initial release.

All I ever used FS for was flying helos from Meigs Field to my local airport (and back) at night in a thunderstorm. Now that bastard Mayor Daley has demolished Meigs it's not even in the game any more.

That and we are all Beta Testers for Microsoft.

Ask me about XP when it first came out. And how it would not run on my new Sony Laptop, and the battle at Best Buy.

I declared a jihad on Microsoft, Sony and Best Buy.

Yeah, beta testing is exactly how I feel about MSFS.  Every release has to be tweaked like crazy to run right.  Not to mention all the stuff that's missing or broken in this latest incarnation.  MS's ACES team always use this phrase of making their FS last the entire shelf life, thus creating a product that doesn't run right on today's computers.  This is the most backward line of thinking I've ever seen.    They could, and should have improved the existing sim by upgrading AI, ATC, NavData, and a few other things, but instead it's all this fluff crap no one can seriously take advantage of.  Assholes.

The best aircraft for FS9 (MSFS 2004) is payware to me.  I can't even look at freeware.  The realism Flight One, PMDG, and others bring are so advanced.

Here's my favorite planes I have installed:

www.precisionmanuals.com/html/747400F.htm

Also, PMDG's 737NG.  Both 600/700 and the 800/900 models.

Hey, I used to work for simFlight.com back in the day, and even contributed some articles to AVSIM.com and Flightsim.com. I see some of my graphics are still there. Was also a MS beta tester on FS 98-2002.

Thanks for reminding me a bit of my past. It's amazing to see how far the hobby has come.

Yea TWA!!!!!  Soon as I saw that nose I knew what I was looking at.

I used to want to work there so bad, that was my dream job.

My mom and "aunt" worked there long ago, and several friends were there before the AA hosing.

I turned down an interview there in 99, and was bummed about it until the AA hosing.

FSX is a dog. Don't buy it. Plus they use a dongle now. I bought it, I hadn't heard anything about it and saw it a Wal Mart one day. Man I was happy. Installed, took about 45 minutes. Oh well that just means it must be a good game. Fire it up jump in a cessna 172 to get a look at the improve terrain I was expeting.

Hmm, the game is running awfully crappy so I check my setting. Their at default. Now I have a good computer and this should not be happening. I start tweaking for about 20 hours with frame rates from 2.5 to 22 with an average of 12. Unplayable in my book. The one thing I really like was the clouds in 10 they do a good job on them and their are probably the problem for the frame rate hit. So I unistalled x and reinstalled 9 bought and addon call Ground Enviroment Pro which greatly imporved the texture and clouds. And I honestly believe 2004 now looks much better than X. One last thing. The aircraft in X looked awfully cartoonish to me.

What you need to know about FSX. It does not support multi cpu's. Big mistake on MS but the developers said it would be just to complicated to work out.

Man, I was psyched I have a dual-dualcore machine, plenty of RAM and HD space and one of the latest and greatests videocards and I get a lousy 12 fps. No, I didn't know the game did not support multi cpus. I just assumed it did. Stick with 2004.

Hey Thanks! That would be great! I am now somewhat proficient on VATSIM and now have an addiction worse than ARF... did 3 flights today, total of 5 hours....
It's a blast for me, I have now moved the coffee maker to my back office area.

Even on the ad for FSX it's choppy.  They scene with the 777 flying by dogs down.  You think they'd probably not want to let the whole world know how slow it is.
