Couple things.
First, are all these villages they service self sustaining, or do working Alaskans have to pay for their shit? Second, Ariel is a cutie and I want 5 minutes of her time alone. |

Alaska has a permanent fund from the sale of oil and gas from state lands. 500-1200 per year per person. And many natives have fishing rights. There is timber, fishing, mining, working in the oil and gas industries..but sadly, many are on public assistance. |

Awesome show!
And they all live off of government cheese. I was in a remote village once and the "store" was mostly WIC foods. The employee said everyone got teh .gov benefits. They did not follow the game laws either. Shooting was all year and at all times of the day. Of course whitely better follow the laws or its off to prison.

The state subsidizes air service heavily but at the same time imagine not having a car payment, maintenance costs, gas and insurance to pay for. The payout per Alaska resident is around $2800 per year and that is designed to offset the inflated prices of EVERYTHING.
If they really wanted to show Alaska aviation they would have shot in the southeast. And FYI: Areil is the extreme exception to the rule. |

I know dozens of "whities" who feed their family with substance hunting and fishing. Game laws in Alaska are very friendly to citizens. That said; whitey better not pick up a whale bone or eagle feather. |

As in not relying on transfer payments for life. And to answer your question in that vein, yes. There are plenty of Texas communities that aren't beholden to transfer payments for survival. |
