We are going to Florida for our family vacation and we are torn between two choices but leaning toward taking the Train.
Option 1: Amtrac AutoTrain Train Total :$1500 round trip if we get a deluxe room for 4 people having our own bathroom, sink, and small refrigerator, includes price of oversized vehicle Time: 17 hours (but we have to drive 3 hours to get to station) Pros: -Pack everything we want in car and we will not have to touch it until we get to our hotel in florida -Buy food and items at home cheaper and bring them with us, so we dont have to go shopping in florida -Hassle free -Free food, including steak dinner. -Can bring back fireworks from florida, which I cannot buy here! Cons: -17 hours on the train Option 2: Flying Total :1600-1700: 1100 without counting fees, plus $5-700 to rent a car + buying whatever we are not allowed to pack Time: 4-6hours Pros: -Relatively Quick Cons: -Lug around luggage -Strict on what we can pack, have to pack less and have to rebuy items in florida such as suntan loation -Will need to go food shopping in Florida -Security So has anyone traveled on an Amtrac Autotrain? The most important question is if anyone knows if they have internet onboard! |

I forgot to add that on the way home we are going to have general seating which are recliners. The price for the private room double for the week we are coming back. Thats another thing we are trying to decide. Is having a private room which has fold out beds worht a $400 upgrade. |
