Hope this belongs here, if not a mod can feel free to move it. Im ordering a bunch of 30rd magazines to my house in FL and will be traveling back to my current home in Maryland. Does anyone know the rules on flying with magazines? They will be empty and I am going to disassemble then as well. TSA's website says I am GTG but has anyone had problems? Also MD doesnt allow purchasing 30rd magazines but if you own them already you are ok to have them. Will there be a problem coming back into MD with them? Just making sure im GTG and not going to end up in trouble. Thanks |

Every airline is different though and it seems that their regs change on a daily basis. As for bringing them into your state, that is something you might want to ask in your Hometown forum to get a definitive answer. Here in California we have a similar law regarding high capacity magazines (More than 10 rounds). If you owned them before a certain date (January of 2000) you were fine. After that date, you couldn't bring any high capacity mags into the state. As the majority of magazines are not marked it would be difficult to tell when they were purchased, unless they were made for a firearm that was not designed until after 2000. |

Yeah, I would bet they are not going to let you on the plane with those mags, even disassembled, in your carry on luggage.
As for bringing them into your state, it looks like that is OK according to this thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=29&t=310466&page=1 |
if you pack them in your check on make sure they are easily accessible. when i was flying out of Okinawa there was a marine next to me in line checking in a duffel bag and they seen a magazine loaded in the bottom when they sent it through the scanner. I don't know if it was just Japanese security but they did not allow him to check in the bag with the magazine in it. so for the next 10 min he unpacked his overstuffed duffel in order to retrieve the mag he placed in the bottom.

It's a machined box of metal, explain why one can't fly with it... ??? From the TSA website: TSA Prohibited Items If you scroll down to the Guns & Firearms section you will see that parts of guns/firearms are prohibited in carry on luggage, but OK in checked luggage. I am pretty sure that they would classify a magazine (Even disassembled) a gun/firearm "Part"..... |

Crap.. Im not checking any luggage. Hum. Maybe I will hold off on this. Post office medium flat rate box is your friend. It's @ $10 to ship them to yourself and avoid the drama. This. No firearm PARTS are even allowed in the passenger cabin. Note even a scope (years ago you could bring these, nut not for a long time now). |

Quoted: Quoted: just fedex them to yourselfm if you aren't checking baggage Problem solved maryland law is you can't mail >20 round magazines into the state, or buy, sell, manf, etc Yeap. That is what I gathered also. I guess I will just be holding off for a few months till I relocate to Florida. |

Thanks This is a very "law school" type hypothetical, but if they were in your carry on, and you flew over NY, NJ, MA you could be arrested on the plane. Forget about the chance of you making an emergency landing in one of those states. |
