How big a rifle case and how heavy can I put on the plane? I assume because of weight requirments I can only get one case on, right? That's a long ass drive out, but I am a little worried about buying a gun at the BRC (it seems inevitable) and not being able to get it home. I could (argh) ship it back to my FFL guy, right? I've never flown with a gun before and I am afraid under current circumstances showing up at the airport with an HK will be a nightmare. |

I believe that 45 pounds per piece is the standard weight limit for baggage. You can probably check a heavier piece, but it will cost you. I have travelled with my Browning Travel Vault, a Pelican double long gun case with the Browning logo on it. Outside dimensions are 52"L X 16"H X 6"D. Whenever I've travelled with firearms, I always put the case up on the hatchway where the luggage gets passed through and tell them that I've got unloaded firearms to show them. Give them a minute to process this bizarre and dangerous fact, then open your case. I always try to keep the weapons down low and out of general sight so as not to cause alarm to the herd of sheep in the terminal. Good luck. |
