I have been holding off a few days, trying to think of something special to add to the community for my 5000th post.  Somehow, 45, 223, 1000, ect all passed me by without much thought.  I wanted 5000 to be noteworthy.  As a few of you know, I am assigned to the Old Guard at Ft Myer.  I still plan on starting a thread detailing the process of officer ceremonial qualification, following my steps through getting my uniform ready and testing out on voice, uniform, marching, chute and sword manual of arms, but I'm not ready to write that all out yet.  I promise, to those of you who are interested, I will eventually.

However, for post 5000, I bring you a simple picture I took on Veterans Day.

Yep.

ETA:  I normally really hate the "post xxxx" threads and the "ask me anything" threads.

This one was neat.

When you run out of room on your tombstone for all of your awards it means you're a bad motherfucker.

Why all the coins?

The significance of coins left on military graves dates back to the Roman Empire. Today, the meaning changes depending on the coin left. The higher the value of the coin left on the headstone, the more closely connected militarily the visitor was with the deceased.
