For shits and giggles, here's an F650 I saw on the highway. Thing was massive, can't imagine how big an 800 must be. Attachment Attached File

Sounds like a Brazilian engine. We have one in our '88 F-800, mated to a 5spd manual.

It's not a bad engine, just doesn't have a lot of horsepower. With regular maintenance, it should last quite a while.

That'd cause our HOA bitch (doesn't everybody have one?) a stroke, what with our "no commercial vehicles (except pickup trucks)" rule. I SO fucking want one!

The 7.8 is the Ford Brazil engine . They are good for what they are . Parts are being tougher to get from Ford since it has been gone from America for many years . I had a 7.8 in a tandem axle armored car at my former employer . It was a decent truck . It had some electrical issues typical of trucks of the era.  It was attached to a 7 speed . It did not set any speed records but lived well day in day out. Keep the filters changed and add some sort of fuel additive to the fuel since it was designed when sulfur in diesel was common . Stay away from Baldwin filters .   Ford heavy trucks was sold to Freightliner and is what is now Sterling .  Some parts can be hard to find .  I bought the last F-8000 left front cab mount in the country .

I've only ever seen an F750 and it was a contender to be a tractor trailer hauler.

Go with the triple cab. It can haul an entire Mormon family to the grocery store.

Yes.

Jobsite trucks.

They mattered more before the 2500/3500 series trucks from the big 3 took off for GCVW and HP/TQ in the early 2000's and went apeshit with their capabilities from showroom floor

I was at an ice cream vendor once, with my Wife and kids.

a guy pulled up in a truck like that.

One of the MILFs in the line said " wonder what he's compensating for?" to her husband,  . . but everybody heard it.

2 seconds later, a tiny man climbed out and the whole line of parents busted out laughing.

No idea about the engine you mentioned , the F750 I drive at work has a I6 cummins I think and the F800 I drove before that also had a cummins.

Just a side note here.
I was looking through the papers the other day to make sure I had current insurance. .......

I came across the registration and holy cow.  The yearly registration for it was around $750 . It's registered as a combination but never pulls a trailer. Not sure why.

I had no idea it cost that much to register a large vehicle like that . The empty weight was like 23000 and gvwr was like 44000.
Does your friend know this about large trucks?

Most of our dump trucks are F800's. Absolute beasts. I have a pic of this one in my phone as a "goal" of mine to get. Not an 800, bit still awesome.

He has been talking about getting a bigger truck than his 1 tons for a while I'm sure he has looked into it but he will find out one way or another.

Just an OK engine, has not much power, built for fuel mileage.

Depending on the year the F800's F750's came with Cummins and Cat 3208 engines. If hauling anything heavy or working it hard, get a Cummins or Cat

Because when a 1 ton has too much of a comfortable ride, you can get the F8000

Definitely could pull a racecar hauler and carry the whole crew, or carry the grandkids and pull a toy hauler full of snowmobiles up to snow country.
