Can anyone provide me with the exact wording for each of the questions on ATF Form 4473 or a link? When FFLs make the call, who are they calling and what exactly do they learn from that source? |
Last time I bought a rifle at Dicks I believe they called the local PD to check for warrants and felonies and such. That was just while I was there, dont know who else they might call. |
Sage advice, but I am trying to understand the process, not be a better liar. More specifically, I was wondering if the source (whoever gets called) has data on the other questions of form 4473. I'm thinking they don't. In other words, what gets covered in the background check? |

Ok, thanks LoginName for the form and 444slayer for what the source actually says (proceed, hold, decline). Question 12a: (about being the actually buyer) they (GBI or what source) can't know this. Question 12b: (under indictment or formal accusation) they should probably know this, but do they Question 12c: (convicted of felony) they should definately know this Question 12d: (fugitive from justice) they should definately know this Question 12e: (unlawful user of controlled substance) do this know this? maybe from a conviction, I don;t know. Question 12f: (adjudicated mental defective) they should know this, but I'm thinking that most mental defectives are not adjudicated as such. Question 12g: (dishonrable discharge): would they know this? possibly, but its not criminal. Question 12h: ( restraining order - dom violence) I would think they should know this Question 12i: (convicted of misdemeanor dom violence), They should definately know this Question 12j: (renounced US citizenship) I suppose they could know this if they person filled out paperwork, but do they? Question 12k: (illegal alien) I don;t know how they would know this, do they? Question 12l: (nonimmigrant alien): I;m not even sure what this means? Aren't all aliens immigants? I don;t know if they would know this, Would the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (or whoever the source) know the answers to all these questions? Does the background check really check? |
"(A16) Q. Typically, who are "nonimmigrant aliens?" [Back] In large part, nonimmigrant aliens are persons traveling temporarily in the United States for business or pleasure, persons studying in the United States who maintain a foreign residence abroad, and certain foreign workers. Permanent resident aliens are NOT nonimmigrant aliens. (Permanent resident aliens often are referred to as people with "Green Cards")." www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#a16 |
Thank you for the straight answers. |
