Has anyone here looked for this thing. Wish I had the time and money to. What a blast ! I am actually familiar with a lot of the places people are looking.

Nobody?

It's like $2 million in gold and jewels stashed in the Rockies somewhere "north of Santa Fe". The treasure map is a poem with nine hints in it.

I had never heard about him or his book until your thread. Thanks for making me spend hours reading about him and his buried treasure.

If the book becomes available again, I will buy it from his store.

He says you don't need the book to find the loot, but it does seem like an interesting read. His fighter jet experience in Nam would be worth it to me.

Very interesting.  Thanks for this thread - first I've heard of it.
Time for research, and maybe new plans for my next vacation!

It looks like the book is available on the site now, but the bad thing is that its only 147 pages long.

Here's the poem that has 9 clues to the whereabouts of the treasure.

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I’ve done it tired and now I’m weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

the cats out of the bag now.

What I find most intriguing is his repeatedly saying that the treasure is somewhere that a weak elderly man could reach. I am willing to bet that it is hidden in plain sight so to speak.

I got that, too. He mentioned that he never said it was buried, just that it was hidden.

He said it was North of Santa Fe, and "More than 300 miles west of Toledo." There is a Toledo Street in Albuquerque. If you go 300 miles west of it and North enough to pass Santa Fe, you're right on the Colorado River and the canyons around it.

Yes, but he has also said it is in the "mountains".

When I was living in SE Kentucky, I heard about a group from UK that found a bunch of Indian rock carvings in Rockcastle County. There was a picture in our local paper that showed a huge rock with turkey tracks carved across it. I thought it was very cool and talked to a few people about it.

A old timer I knew showed me a old newspaper clipping about some guys that robbed a stagecoach somewhere in Texas. They where being chased up the Wilderness trail and ended up in a shootout with their pursuers near Livingston Kentucky. The last robber told them that he hid the gold near the turkey and pony tracks before he died. The gold was never found.

Needless to say, we loaded up and spent several days searching the woods around the area. We never found any treasure, but we did find the pony tracks. The area has some very rough terrain and is full of caves. If nothing else, it was great fun and I hope to go back some day and try again.

I just came across treasurenet.com

There are enough lost treasure stories in my area to keep someone busy for the rest of their days.

I have read that the turkey tracks could be markings of Jesse James or part of the lost Johnathan Swift mine.

That could be anywhere or it could be in his own backyard.

North of Sante Fe and above 5000 is a very large area to cover.

Wondering about the legal/tax issues involved. What are the public land issues with something like this?

I was reading an interview where he was asked if there was a guarantee that there were no legal issues. He said he buried a treasure for someone to find and that was that.

He's been under federal investigation and seems to have a disdain for the .gov.

I bet he put it on Federal land. Seems like it would be a black eye for the government if treasure hunters found a famous, well publicized treasure intended for the public and it was confiscated.
