Probably three years ago I found a class ring of a West Virginia University graduate while hiking. All it has is the guys initials and graduating year (1994) engraved in it.

I randomly brought this up at work and a buddy mentioned I could find a list of graduates from WVU in 1994, but I couldnt find anything like that online.

I would like to return the ring to the owner, I mean, what am I gonna do with it. But this was the first idea I have been presented with to try and locate the owner. Any ideas?

Call the alumni office at the school.  It may have been reported lost to them in case anyone finds it.

Try to contact the Regstrars office... if the alumni office fails. If not mistaken those folks handle transcripts etc. they would have all the important stuff such as Social Security, DOB etc. a current/former address etc. Tell them whats going on , and see if they can contact him or her and have them call you....leave your number with them.
I think there is a federal law out ther somewhere that says they must protct the student's ID...I guess because of selling their name off to data bases, id theft etc.
However they con contact the person and have the individual contact you :o)

You shouldn't have a problem getting names. It's public information.

I once found 5 at once. They fell out of a stripper when she did a split.

That's mighty civil of you.  I wish there were more people like you in the world.  I cherish my class ring more than just about any other possession.  It was a gift from my mom and dad.  Some folks got cars, etc... I got something to last forever.

Some time I'll post the tale of the class ring that was forced on me.

I didn't want it.
