Tonight it is going to be more Commie aircraft, Sukhoi's.

And I'll start out with a high speed reconnaissance and interceptor aircraft that never went into service, the Sukhoi T-4.

Got any with the nose in the up position?

Its very SST, XB70, Concord-ish

Man that is one ugly plane.

I think you'd have to power it up to run the hydraulics...or give it the world's largest little blue pill...to see that nose come up again.

If I were in Russia, I'd volunteer to help polish that sucker up.  It's a shame to see a unique aircraft sitting there letting the weather slowly kicks its ass.

Clearly the designers had at least seen photos of a Valkyrie.  But this appears to be MUCH smaller than a Valkyrie.

Military aviation is cool no matter whose flag it served.

Forward visibility was great.

The first thing I thought when I saw that was "Mini-Valkyrie"

Interesting.

Holy hell, the wind noise must have been skull-flattening when that nose drooped.  The russkies artfully mated an XB-70 planform with a pilothouse salvaged from a barge.

A periscope was used for forward viewing when the nose was retracted, and could be employed at speeds of up to 373 mph....

In honor of the new avatar, Gemini VII

I think GeminiVII was the most interesting of the Gemini missions, and Lovell is my favorite astronaut.

Aviation trivia about the Frogfoot:   It is capable of supersonic flight when lightly loaded.  After dumping its considerable load on some VERY unhappy people on the ground, it can get the hell out of dodge!

It's very competitive with the A-10 but its greater speed capability definitely is a plus.

However, I've HEARD that it's not as heavily armored as is the A-10.
