Just a bit of advice, if you buy one, buy a rebuild kit at the same time.
I bought mine at Lowe’s around 2011. Box is long gone. Got a call from the town this week, water usage is higher the last couple of months. Spent some time the last couple of days trying to find a leak. Crawling around under the house, everything dry. One of my access holes is next to the hydrant.
As I was crawling out, I heard something. Put my ear to the pipe, could hear water running. While I’ve been using the things for 30 years, I didn’t really know much about them. Dig it out, yep water running from the drain hole. Started to go to Lowe’s for a kit right then, but did some googling. Seems the bottom wears in a bit and needs adjustment. So that’s what that bolt up top is for.
So I loosened the bolt. With the water on. Pressure forced the rod all the way. A boot full of water isn’t fun. Shut off the water, put the rod about a 16th of an inch higher. No leak anymore.
Problem is, no brand on the hydrant other than China. Lowe’s changes brands like I change socks, hopefully the kits are universal. Glad I filled the hole with gravel when I installed the hydrant. Easy to dig out and refill.
