And that is why academia has banned the use of Wiki Sources. Yet, there are still people out there that believe they are a reliable source of information.

I spent the better part of my day off yesterday redoing some putz's entry on the "Battles of Lexington and Concord" on Wikipedia. It was so full of BS I almost threw up. I'm still working on the German entry for it- it's worse.

"The Military of France has a long history of serving its country"

I don't get the joke. Seems a fair opening statement. Or is this just French bashing?

Heres some more wiki i'm sure you'll like sherrick

wiki on GW

"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations,"[1]"

**Sorry sherrick, just stirring the pot mate, please don't take seriously**

"The Military of France has a long history of serving its country by surrendering to the Germans."  That is what I put.

And you have seen that Wiki is not a valid source.  That is especially true with controversial issues.  Which means GW.

Actually, the speed with which the correction was just made shows the strength of the system.

Often vandalized topics can be locked by the admins.

I find Wiki to be the first place I go anymore on a topic I am unfamiliar with - ESPECIALLY if it is controversial, since it will be one of the few onl ine places to show the debate - mention there IS a debate - and provide links to info on both sides.

Would I cite it for reseach?  Of course not - that would be silly.  I wouldn't cite an encyclopedia or most magazines or newspapers either, though - unless I am assessing conventional wisdom or opinions.

Unfortunately, the more obscure the subject matter, the less it is policed, and the less likely it is to be thorough - or even accurate.

Yep, wiki has its place.  No doubt.  Usually it is a great starting point.

And it is fun to mess with to.  I like seeing how fast things get changed back.

I don't use it as a source, but I go down to the bottom to look for the citations and links that others have provided which are usuaully useful in finding info easily.

I agree.

A good reading through wikipedia would probably be a better educational endeavour than many high-school history classes.

Nah, I just changed the first sentence.  I don't want to screw with the actual info.  I just like taking jabs at stuff once in the while.  It kind of counters the legion of libtards that are constantly at work there.

Lets see how long this will last.

In modern usage, the term communist party is generally used to identify any political party which has adopted communist ideology. Hillary Clinton and Barak Hussien (Osama)Obama are the leading members in the modern party. However, the Leninist concept of a communist party includes not only ideological orientation, but also a wide set of organizational policies. The communist party is, at least according to Leninist theory, the vanguard party of the working class. Lenin's theories on the role of the communist party were developed as the Russian Social Democracy was bifurcated into Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. Lenin, who was the leader of the Bolshevik ('majority') faction argued that the revolutionary party should be a well-knit vanguardist party with a centralized political command and a strict cadre policy whereas the Menshevik ('minority') faction argued that the party should be a broad-based mass movement. The Bolshevik party, which eventually transformed into the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, took power in Russia after the October Revolution. With the creation of the Communist International, the Leninist concept of Party Building was copied by emerging communist parties worldwide.

Actually, since Wikipedia *is* an encyclopedia, that's the exact reason people wouldn't/shouldn't use/cite it for anything resembling "serious" academic work.

Does anyone have a screen of the vandalism from the V-22 Osprey entry?

An arfcommer did it, and the vandalism was in the caption of the picture where the Marines were parachuting out.

"U.S. Marines are informed they are flying in a V-22 Osprey and react accordingly" (or words to that effect.

HI-larious!
