I'm sure this kind of thing has been posted before, but I just found one I think is funny.

I was reading John Grisham's new novel, "The Last Juror"(paperback ed.). The story is set in Mississipi in 1970.  On page 111 it says "Harry Rex had a 9-millimeter Glock automatic from his vast collection..."  The first Glock wasn't made until like 1980.

One would think that such a high dollar author would at least check his facts or have some editor check them.

Any others like this you know of?

Well, for one...in Star Wars, which was supposed to be a long time ago, Han Solo used a broomhandle Mauser with a cone tack welded to the end.

And all the storm troopers ran around with Sterling's and MG-42's, that was more of a logistic thing and not an error by the author/director..

The Apes in the orig Planet of the Apes all carried restocked M1 Carbines

In Starship Troopers they used restocked M14s, the flash hider sticks out clearly and in some shots you can see the M14 reciever through the ejection port.

In many WW2 movies the Schmiessers (MP42 IIRC) were acutally restocked Reisings.

In some VanDamme movie the BG has a TC Contender with a 45/70 barrel on it that has no sights or scope on it.

In Fargo, when the sheriff shoots the perp at the lake (near the 'chipper), her carry gun changes make and barrel length between shots.

etc

In Titanic, the bodyguard to the cruel fiancee's character (sorry, can't remember names) carries a nickel plated, ivory gripped 1911.  It is highly unlikely that such a weapon could be found in 1914, when the Titanic actually sank.

One of the scenes in the movie Patton, you can see a junior officer toting around a Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range.

Just got done watching Dr Strangelove.  In one of the scenes where the US Army is attacking Burpelson AFB, there's a shot over a soldier's shoulder (say that 5 times fast) and it's plain he's shooting....a German MG42.

Seriously, in Hamburger Hill there is a scene where one soldier is blasting away with his M16...without a mag in the well.

This is one I noticed about 6 or 8 years ago and just saw again last night.
In "It's a Wonderful Life", Clarence the Angel tells George Bailey that "Harry died at the age of 9 because you weren't there to save him" George moves the snow away from the headstone and it says "1911-1919"

There is no way Harry could have been 9 years old if he lived from 1911-1919.  He would have been 7 if he died before his birthday or 8 if he died after his birthday.

OK so it is not a gun error, but I thought it was a good find.

i was reading a "continuety movie flops" page w/ movie falacies.

in saving private ryan, apearantly the sniper uses two different scopes. the 1st is time line correct, later in the film he uses a different one that was not available until AFTER the war.

also, in FMJ, in Hue, the dude that takes out two NVA, prior to doing so he's changing mags, he has a mag then doesn't then has one again "just in time".

In Tombstone when Ringo and Doc are sizing each other up Wyatt puts his hand under the table to cock the shotgun, then in the next scene he's fiddlin' with the coin again.
O.K., it's an editting error rather than a gun error, but a gun was involved in the scene.

In the book "Postmortem" the ME owns a .38 cal. Luger revolver.
In the free the death camp scene of "The Big Red One" a GI shoots his M1 into an oven 18 times before the clip ejects.

Black Hawk Down,

When Hoot was getting his food and Steele comes over about the safety, that gun he is holding is clearly an M4, and they weren't out at that time.

AKM's on another episode (or maybe even that same one?).

SG Atlantis:
The ones trying to make nukes seem to have their own firearms designs, though (one of which looks an awful lot like the VSS Vintorez [but isn't]).

When the civie leader (keep forgetting her name) goes back in time, the Ancients have very light-wight LEATHER (or burlap) backpacks -- wouldn't a civilization that has such uber technology have synthetics?

One would think that such an advanced city as Atlantis would have some small arms in the armory? Everything was left in-tact, just no small-arms! (then they try to kill self-healing beasts with P90's which punch tiny holes and leave the enemies stunned at most). What about a supply of those rubbery-squid-like missiles (you know what I'm talking about).

Early M4 adopted by SOCOM in mid-late 80's (same as M4 but with pencil barrel), before Clinton put troops into and out of Somalia in '92.

The "Abu Dahbi Carbine" was designed/adopted in 1989 by Colt and had all the features of the M4 carbine.

In Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, all the Rainbow guys are issued MP5/10s and Beretta .45s.

The only .45 that Beretta makes is a SAA clone in .45 Long Colt.

I think he meant SIG Sauer .45s.

I think that they had USP's.

And Beretta does offer a .45 in the Cougar line.

Just remembered...there are a bunch of continuity and firearms errors in that classic Ahnold flick, "Commando."  Like the M60 belt that grows on its own (Ahnold shoots M60, belt gets to about 6" long; he turns around, belt is 3 ft long again).
