Haven't had an actual PC in awhile, just smartphones and tablets.
Price $600 max. Can be laptop or just a tower. Doesnt need to be anything crazy just general use maybe some video editing and moderate gaming. Not even sure what specs are good for the money these days. |

I buy off-lease PCs on ebay cheap.
Recently my 2004 XP box finally died, I bought a slim-tower Dell Optiplex 780 with a 3.2 GHz Intel Dual Core CPU, 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB HD for $90 delivered!! And best yet - Windows 7! None of that Windows 10 bullshit to deal with. It works fucking great and was less than $100. $600? Fuck that! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-780-SFF-C2D-Optiplex-780-Desktop-PC-with-3-0GHz-8GB-1TB-HD/122466363517 |

For a laptop? My Acer is a piece of shit. Don't buy one. My Lenovo has been flawless, but the arfcom will say it is chicom spy machine. |

I just bought a dozen computers and wound up going with a Gen7 Intel I5 cpu. The other specs are not that important, and in your price range I'd just look for something with that CPU. Everything else will fall in place. You may want to look for one with a 3d video card, and a Solid State hard drive, but you can always buy a cheaper computer and upgrade those yourself, which is probably the better way to go because you can get exactly what you want.
Brand names don't matter to me, except for business machines. At home, get whatever is cheapest and doesn't look like junk. |

For a desktop, look at HP, Acer, ASUS, Levenovo, etc. Don't buy a Dell desktop. Dell uses proprietary parts and are not replaceable except with Dell Parts.
One big advantage to building your own, you get higher quality parts. Either way, you will probably need to add a video card. AMD: RX480; Nvidia: GTX 1060. ETA: Looks like the RX 480 is still caught up in the bitcoin thing, so instead of $200 they are $500+... The 1060 looks available under $300. Slickdeals Desktops Staples Desktops |
