Small ones, like fit in a suitcase. Does GD have any recommendations?
Preferably cheaper and without service contracts. Just like s little insurance policy if something goes "missing" |

GPS Tracker
I have 2 of these working right now. There is a $25 per unit per month service but it is not a contract. Use it for one month if you want and never again or in a year you can turn it on for another month. Get the magnetic waterproof case too, they work well. |

Study a few days and get your ham radio license.
Then get one of these: 
Tracker Global tracking for free as long as it is within range of a digapeter. Most fair size cities have great coverage. |
