I got my infected gallbladder removed 6 days ago. I still ache and have no energy. Fevers come and go daily. Everybody said their recovery time was a couple of days and they were back to work. Am I just a big pussy or what?  Not my first surgery by far, but this one keeps lingering.

Your experience?

Did they cut you open or go laproscopic? Big difference in recovery. If they went laproscpic, and you have those conditions, I would get in to see your doctor.

I would get thee hind end to a doctor ASAP, sounds like a post op infection if you're running a fever.

If you're running a fever post-surgery go in and get seen ASAP.  Regardless of which type of procedure you had, they filled you up with antibiotics during surgery via IV.

Somethings not right.

Don't the post-op instruction say to call the doctor if you run a fever after surgery?  I would rather go to the doctor and have it turn out to be nothing than to sit home and end up back in the hospital with a raging infection.

can be months.  its a "minor" surgery but your body needs to adjust. Everyone is different.

Keep an eye on the fever and make sure you don't end up with infection.  The rest will take care of itself.

At first, my wife bitched and moaned and was bloated and slowly her complaints went away.

Digestive enzymes and probiotics will help you I think.  They helped her and now she does fine on her own.

As for it being a "minor" surgery.  They took a damn organ and its still traumatic to your body. Its minor in the grand scheme of things.

Feel better op, pay attention to the fever

Edit: surgery can leave you with mild fevers but you also want to make damn sure they didn't nic something.

Theres the possibility of a bile leak which my wife had, and is supposed to be 1% chance.  Or they could've made a small nic/k somewhere.

My surgeon for my hernia surgery yesterday was extra careful and prescribed antibiotics just in case since we went with open.

Did you get those by chance?

Good Luck, hope you feel bettter soon. BTW, if you have actual fever, (T* above 100.8), you need to talk to a doc

I hope all is well. My wife is in surgery right now having her gallbladder removed. Thank god the hospital doesn't block Arfcom or I I would be going even crazier than I am.

It was done laproscopically.  I had 30 hours of IV antibiotics prior to procedure and until I was sent home. Oral antibiotics now. Fever hasn't gotten above 100.5 F. Sounds like I better at least call the doctor's office!

Don't call just go!...

Just met with wife's surgeon. Hers went from not inflamed to a hot mess as he described it. Took it out  via lapro but had to make large insision in her belly to remove it. Heavily concerned about infection now. Said will need another surgery to put mesh in to prevent a hernia from forming. Won't let me see her for at least another hour

I had to have my gall bladder removed when I was 18 years old because it stopped working. I spent 1 month in the hospital on bed rest with round the clock care. They had to have extra staff for me because 3 nurses needed to watch me for the first two weeks, then only 2 needed for the last 2 weeks.

Had mine out last March laproscopically. Stayed overnight in hospital on dilaudid.

It quit working. Recovery time for me was a month. In the bed everyday. Constant nasuea and pain. Couldn't eat much. I missed a whole month of work and dropped 10-15 pounds.

As a result of having no gallbladder I developed irritable bowel syndrome.

I tried passing a gallstone on a Monday and it got stuck.  I was admitted to the hospital the next morning, connected to Demerol drip for the pain and given antibiotics for the infection.  Wednesday I had a scope run down through my stomach and into my small intestine to  remove the stuck stone.  I wasn't completely out of it and remember seeing my insides on the monitor.  Surgery was Thursday morning and I was released on Friday morning.  Back to work on Monday and playing wallyball (volleyball on a racquetball court) the next Wednesday.

As everyone stated earlier, the recovery will vary by person.  My wife had her gallbladder removed a few years later by the same surgeon that removed mine.  He used the most up to date lapro techniques with smaller incisions but she hurt a LOT worse than I did.  She spent a week in bed with a minor infection on two of her incisions.

You need to contact your doctor or go to the ER pronto. 4 months ago I had part of my liver removed, 5 feet of intestines, and my gallbladder removed. I was in the hospital for 10 days and I came home to experience the same symptoms you were. As it turns out I had an infection and spent 4 more days in the hospital getting pumped full of antibiotics before they were able to bring my fever down.
