The garage door sometimes will not close with the remotes. It will close if you hold down the wall switch. I'm guessing it can either be the sensors or the motor is going bad. You folks have any experience with this stuff?  Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I forgot to go into detail about the problem. The garage door will start to close, and then go back up by itself. Both remotes are working, but the door won't go all the way down.

Its the sensors, or the "power" to close isnt set high enough.  Is this a craftsman?

Check that nothing is blocking the sensors, either debris on the floor or on the bottom of the door. Check the wiring to the sensors.

If it's not that, I'd start watching as the door closes to see if it's hanging up on something on or around the door tracks.

Do the lights flash on and off after the door reopens on its own?

your safty eyes are out of alighment. Most likely one is just a little bit off from the other one or they could possible have dust/dirt etc on the lense. THere should be led lights on top of the safty eyes depending on brand of op one should be green the other yellow or both green. If one of th eled's is off, red or flickering adjust that one and your op will work like normal.

When you hold the wall button you are over riding the safty eyes. Remote batteries have nothing to do with it.

Yes, the garage door motor light flashes on and off.

The lights normally indicate it went back up because of the built in safeties. As stated above, holding down the wall button will override those safeties. Either the sensors are out of alignment or blocked, or potentially just gone bad, or the door is hanging up on something hard enough to trip the safety and cause the door to go back up.

You may check to make sure the springs and cables aren't binding somewhere, too.

Since the door is closing okay with the button held down, I don't think it's a problem with the motor. I'm far from an expert, but I've had more than my fair share of door opener problems.
