Has anyone heard about this thing? It almost sounds like a joke. Supposedly, Stavatti has created some kind of design (I don't even think they have a prototype) for a laser rifle called the SF-1 . It is supposed to be powered by heat from Polonium decay, lethal out to 1800 meters, and the power source is supposed to last 60 days. It even says it will be able to fire full auto. This would be awesome if they ever developed it, but I can't imagine a shoulder mounted lazer developing enough energy to burn through a human target (IIRC, lazers have a tough time penetrating water).

Here is a link to the Defense Review Article about it: defrev.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=460

Look at the white paper on the TIS-1 and the SF-1 description for details.

From the linked article...

The rifle will reportedly create a recoil force of 11.25 lbs/sq. in. to the operator.

I may be missing something here, but how would a laser emitter create any recoil at all???

only if it emmits some sort of kenetic charge vs just straight heat energy.

I call a BIG BS.

I think the recoil comes from all of the gases moving around inside the rifle. In the whitepaper, it says that the gases travel at mach 5.98 at one point.

The recoil doesn't exist, the rifle doesn't exist, the company doesn't exist.

It's realy a recoilless rifle shot with one hand...under water.

Those dupes seem to be the highlight of the night.
