Howdy everyone,

I want to install a gas fire pit in the back yard this summer but am having a hell of a time finding a burner for a reasonable price. The ones I have found are around $700 in price! There has to be something more reasonable out there can anyone help?

This is the style I am looking to build.

Can you hack something together from something used off of craigslist?

Ok I did find this kit..

http://cgi.ebay.com/18-SS-FIRE-PIT-DOUBLE-RING-BURNER-KIT-Gas-Logs-Glass-/380321370600?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588ceb91e8

I am guessing I would just have to run a longer underground line to this burner to make it function? Some kits come with SS pans and others dont. Anyone know why you would need a pan??

The ehow link talked a little bit about why you would need a pan sounds like it may depend on your set up

Copy that thanks for the links.

From what I read it was pretty vague on weather I needed the pan or not. I am not sure how hot the burner will get but I may line the bottom of the pit with steel...

i think steel is a good idea couldn't hurt. I had never seen a fire pit with sand seems like a neat idea.

I kinda like the look of the fire glass. That stuff is pretty cool.
