Wednesday Oct 28 is the 50th anniversary of the completion of the St Louis Gateway Arch. A few days from completion I took these photos while on a trip to St. Louis as a member of the University of Illinois varsity Rifle Team. We had a competitive meet with the Washington University team. When a lot of schools still had such teams. Fifty year old black and white photos a little faded. http://<a href=http://i1314.photobucket.com/albums/t567/mjzman/StL%20Arch_zpsla8neaud.jpg</a>" /> Neat!! |

My signature along with other school children of the St. Louis area is supposed to be in a time capsule encased in the footing of the arch. I remember signing it but have no idea if its really there. And yes it is cool to go to the top. You can feel it sway in a strong wind! |

Cool.
My Dad has a picture of himself while working on the original Busch Stadium in 1965. The Arch is right behind him in the background with the missing last piece. He was a carpenter on that job. He knew a few iron workers who worked on the Arch. A year later he was a combat medic in Vietnam with the 11th ACR. He's still with us. The old Busch Stadium of course isn't. |
