Pretty soon the majority of baby boomer's will be retiring, leaving the x and y generations to cover the positions that they have held for the last 20 years.

The problem is that the x generation is too small to cover the gap, there is not enough of them to fill in the holes and the y generation is huge but you are talking about a group of people in their late 20's that don't have any experience leading, no project management experience, nothing near the competency level that is going to be required when the boomer's retire.

There is a serious lack of soft skills that come from both the x and y generations. By soft skills I'm referring to competencies across the board - communication, leadership, worldly knowledge, business sense and so on. They just don't have the time to learn everything that will be needed of them in time.

What will happen to our country when this occurs? Will we be led by an even more inept and clueless set of government officials?

This is coming soon, most likely within the next 10 years.
