I am looking to buy a travel trailer(towable) under 25 feet and am looking at the various brands of "RV" generators. Obviously if I could afford a HONDA I wouldn't be looking for opinions here. What is the generaly liked brands and models? |

The Champion brand is very highly regarded both here and on the forums at RV.net. They have models that come with a 30 amp RV plug, and the engines are Honda clones with a great reputation. Cabela's recently had the 3500w model with remote start on sale for $400. Edit: Cabela's has the model without remote start, but with the optional wheel kit and cover, on sale for $319. I have this exact generator... it's definitely worth getting at this price. |

My cheap chinese generator saved me $600 over the price of a Honda.
And then, two weeks after using it, I got to spend $3000 on a new septic pump and related fun. The worst part is that I know better. The whole fucking time, a little angel was on one shoulder saying "fuck this shit man", and a demon on the other saying, "oh think of the money you saved!"

Sorry OP, but you get what you pay for........I've had 3 Honda generators in the last 10 years.
Usually, get them thru a friend who upgrades. Why not lump it into the purchase of the trailer. My dream set up for the camper would be 2 EU2000 generators with the parallel connection kit. These are almost dead silent so you could run them all night long without pissing off your camping neighbors. |
