FermiLab is in the burbs of Chicago. They do (or did) anti-matter research. We were actually just by there the other day when we went to a Kane County Cougars (minor league baseball) game. It has been awhile (6 or 7 years) since I took the kids there to see the bison that roam. It is free to the public. Everyone needs a particle accelerator near by. (well, needed....it was recently shut down) https://www.fnal.gov/

WAY too much RF/power/magnetic noise from the rings and containment at CERN, and when you only have under 100 protons that remain in an attempt to make anti-Hydrogen which theoretically should emit a neutrino, but there's too much noise there to measure that reaction with all the relatively giant reactions of heavy atoms in the independent sub- rings. It's the capturing antimatter and containing them in a bottle about the size of a scuba tank linked to another scuba tank and they're always in motion so they figured out how to make a storage system by connecting two magnetic coils the size scuba tanks roughly together that work like an electric motor where the polarity changes and in the transition, it gets a count, down to one anti-proton when they're away from CERN, but at the site they're only within dozens to hundreds for accuracy due to all the background noise. So, as I said, all the noise for very very sensitive experiments like the neutrino experiments in Antarctica trying to find one shooting through the earth among other particles that are hard to detect. So this system lets them go to a mountain lab that's built to detect various fundamental particles, and then they throw the anti-protons toward electrons to try and get anti-hydrogen (in a vacuum system), and see if they all annihilate or if there can be amounts of antimatter atoms rather than the fundamental protons and quarks having matter opposite to real. What this experiment is doing is not waiting for the universe to have a neutrino (anti/real) come through detectors on our little planets, they've been buried deep in gold mines for decades and haven't seen neutrinos or tachyons and other theoretical possible particles to fill out the standard model more with these pace bumped over by the Higgs Boson, though they have seen things which led to other things being discovered. It's like putting together the early periodic tables, it was clear some elements existed that weren't found out when arranged by atomic number. Similar thing with standard model and Higgs Boson. So they're going to just blow stuff up themselves because they've spent all their money making these deep Earth detectors in mountain ranges, old mines, Antarctica, and results are still a lot of theory. So they're getting a little more heavy handed and I think this truck crashing into a hydrogen truck would be amazing, some real e=mc² shit that makes a uranium/plutonium fission explosion seem as inefficient as they are. Dark matter is the other thing. They are now leaning back toward calling it the Æthere/Ether because the amount of gravity and space and theories that universe is continually expanding from a big bang don't work together. Whenever we get to tiny or astronomical (literally) areas of science, we are quite ignorant with a lot of good guesses, but proving is hard. |

Though i suppose you can submit idea for experiment and see if a neutrino is produced when photon excited material traverses a banana and if if emitted a neutrino or not. That would be hilarious if approved. |

The Tevitron was closed down, Fermilab itself is still open. when the particle collider stuff moved to switzerland, Fermilab refocused on neutrino science. They are actually building new particle beams for that. |
