I want to replace the cheap sliding windows in my basement with Glass Block.  There are three windows, and the opening measures 32" x 19 1/2".  The basic idea is for privacy and security.

Is this a DIY job?  Is it easy or hard?  Any suggestions, comments, experiences?

I think most of those blocks are hollow.  From a security standpoint I think they'd make entry a pain in the ass, but not impossible.

A pain in the ass is a huge upgrade from the ease of getting in through the current sliding glass windows.  If they take a sledgehammer to 'em  it would look somewhat suspicious.

They do sell them at Home Depot

I saw some profesionally installed.  They showed up with them premade, slide them in, and grouted the gap.  Looked really easy

I don't know if the ones from HD are available premade.

My basement has them, and the small vent window in place of the middle brick.

I'd like to do the same thing, if $ ever permits.

Aha, they do have them at Home Depot, and in some kind of pre-made kit.  Online order only though

Looking to do this in the basement/band room.
I'd like the center area to be a venting window.

I have them in my house, they're great. I had a local company install the, for a decent price (maybe ~$50/window).

looks just like this with the little opening window

There may be building code issues, check before spending money.
Many places say if you have a basement bedroom the windows must be "escapable" in the event of a fire.... and some places now even require that for "living" areas in basements.

Basement is unfinished, only activity going on in there is reloading!

Go to Home Depot, millworks department or the pro desk. You can order glas block window pre assembled or by the blocks by themselves.

They are hollow, but still very strong.

I have been in the masonry industry for 8 years now, and glass block can be tricky depending on application. I would contact some local masonry subcontractors, as there is not much work going on in construction, I bet you could get them done really cheap.
