Ok, so you hear all this talk from Al Gore and others about global warming, so is it true? I know the Earth goes through cycles were it gets hotter and colder, but is this actually global warming going on right now. You hear debate on both sides about it, and me personally dont trust a damn thing Al Gore says, so ARFCOM set me strait about this issue |

Yes, the earth is warming. Yes, there are cycles of warming and cooling. No, it is probably not significantly caused by human activity, but that's debatable. No, it is almost certainly not warming to the extent that the eco-freaks like gore say it is. No, if it is, in fact, warming to that degree, it will not be anywhere near the problem that the eco-freaks like gore say it will be. Remember, we are the most adaptable species on the planet, and we're not going to let the species we depend on every day die either. Also, we're about due for a reglaciation. |
The head of NASA released a brief a month or so ago saying that we were heading into a new Ice Age, based on the cycles of solar energy output. Not a glaciers-down-to-Georgia Ice Age, but more like the "little ice age" back in the late medieval/early Renaissance era. |
Uhhh....no....they were formed by the African tectonic plate colliding with the North American tectonic plate. |
My teachers said that they were formed by glaciers. That was a long time ago.

Your teacher was a no-go at basic geology. |
Thanks, that sets it strait |
The African tectonic plate collided with the European tectonic plate, causing the ALPS. |
this is why the global warming/climate change freaks are in such a hysterical fit to get everyone on board quickly and get a lot of rules changed now, so they can claim credit for when the earth naturally goes into this cooling cycle as they will say, see we made the world cooler.............(and america completely non-competitive in global economics) |
There have been some decent studies. ibdeditorial.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=287279412587175 The study says that "try as we might, we simply could not find any relationship between industrial activity, energy consumption and changes in global temperatures." The study concludes that if you shut down all the world's power plants and factories, "there would not be much effect on temperatures." |
The African plate also made the Appalachians. In fact, a bit of it stuck to the NA plate and forms part of South Carolina and Georgia. The Alps are far younger than the Appalachians. |
| If algore truely believed that in less than ten years every human on Earth will die from global warming caused by human activity, he would stop doing those things that he claims cause global warming. Instead, he just pays someone else not to do those things. In the name of self preservation, he would try to get others to stop and stop himself. I can't conclude anything except algore does not believe his own theory, or algore is suicidal. |
| Global warming is a political hoax driven by Al Gore and the crazy environmentalists. Carbon credits were dreamed up to exempt them and the wealthy elite from life style sacrifice and change. Everyone else is supposed to live like like it was 1850. A lot of people are buying this bullshit because they watch too much television. |
Yeah, I know. But, try and explain the tectonic shift to the ignant who don't believe that the earth has been 'around the world several times'. Ice ages, and warming periods are also part of the world's plates shifting. The 'AlGores' of the world don't want to admit/realize that we are living on a really OOlllld rock. |
That was a long time ago.
