NIB Gen3 for $485, or a NIB Gen4 for $520?

Should I FO or should I NO?
4/4/2012 12:50:36 PM EDT

Seems to be issues with both Gen3 and Gen4 Glocks lately...

Then again, I have two (early) Gen4 G17's and they both function flawlessly. Also just picked up a Gen4 G19 but I haven't gotten out to the range with it yet.

What fits your hand better?

Make sure the grooves fit your hand. I hate the G19 but the 17 fits ok.

Either one seems reasonably comfy, really. Is there any advantage to the Gen4 if I just want a compact Glock 9mm with a rail, and the stock model fits?

Get the Gen 3

Gen 3,just make sure it doesn't have the gen 4 ejector.

If not, then go with the Gen3.

There's really no price difference since the Gen4 comes with 3 mags while the Gen3 only comes with 2.

No Glock hate yet? I'll fix that...

The correct answer is:

SIG

Gen 3

Better reputation and easier to carry IWB due to smoother grips.

Wouldn't hesitate to buy a Gen 4 now though

Gen4 if you like the new texture & frame.

Gen3 if not.

Also the Gen4 comes with 3 magazines, so consider than in the extra cost.

i am sorry, but the gen 4 is out now and 485 for a factory stock 3rd gen glock 19 is too high IMO. its worth about 425, with the rest of the used glocks. its like the people selling gen 2 guns asking 450 for them. i kinda just laugh because they really think a 2 generation old model is worth even 400 bucks.

I have had it for three or four years now and I've had plenty of rounds through it, is there something I should look for just to make sure.

I bought it new through an LEO deal and it was one of those blue label boxes that people get all worked up about.

If the market supports the price ...then that's what its worth...gunowners aren't the most trusting bunch in the world and will stick with what they know ....Gen 3s are trusted..Gen 4s? we shall see.....

market supporting a 485 dollar "nib" old glock is ridiculous. i am trying to get people to stop paying that much for them. i paid 440 for my 19 with trijicon night sights. no way in hell i would pay over 450 for ANY factory stock glock. just not worth it IMO. thats why i buy used, and dont pay over that price point.

If you get one think about the resale too because you may not want to keep it, and a gen 3 used has lost its value around here at least, I'm not going to speak for the whole country.

Yet they are selling for those prices everyday...

The market determines prices...Not new cost vs used cost.  Plus a lot of people actually prefer the 2nd Gen guns which keeps the prices up.

Go ahead and search GT and you'll find some people with erratic ejection issues in the Gen3 guns that seemed so prevalent with Gen4 guns.

It's anecdotal, so who know what the cause is.

Like I said, I have two Gen4's with no issues and one I haven't tested out yet. I've also got a dozen Gen3's with no issues at all either. So I'm happy with either generation. Just reporting what I've seen.

Not sure of specific dates, but it was a range of only several months or so.  The parts that are in question (recoil spring assembly and extractor) are easy to identify if they are a problem or not.   IIRC Glock replaces the parts at no charge.

You should do a search for specifics.    Even guns within the range had a pretty low rate of issues.  It's just that they were visible because it happened all at once, and it was rather unique considering Glock's reputation.  The worst critics of the issue was no less than Glock owners themselves.

I'd buy a Gen 4 without hesitation right now.

Feel isn't everything

Just because it feels good in the store doesn't mean you will shoot it best

My standard frame G30 feels like crap to me but I surprise myself every time I shoot it.

Everybody is different and you will never really know which grip will shoot best for you untill you shoot them al

You show a price difference , at one point a year or so back the gen3 guns came with two mags and the gen4 came with 3 mags. Is that still the case? If so that makes the price a non issue.

I talk big but I have not got around to buying a gen4 to really see what grip is best for me. I own  a 30,26,34 and a old two pin 19. Money is pretty tight but I wonder if I should pop for the gen4 19?
