Just got back from the gun range and for the very first time in my life got the chance to shoot a 1911, a Springfield GI 5' and now I know why people hate the grip angle on the Glock. I never thought I would ever do this but I'm now going to sell my G21 and buy a Springfield 1911. Not taking anything away from the Glock now, hey if it works for you all the power to you, in terms of reliability the Glock is second to none, but after feeling the 1911 I now know what all the fuss is about. I am now a 1911 convert! Woot! |
Welcome to the club. I'll IM you with the secret handshake when you post a picture of the new .45... |
|
1911's are nice and all.... But I wouldn't ditch my G21 for a 1911 I haven't had the chance to make sure functions properly unless this is a "toy". If it's not a weapon you depend on for serious social purposes, whatever you do is cool. If it is a weapon you use to preserve your posterior, be REAL slow to get rid of a known reliable weapon for one you haven't wrung out yet. Ask me how I know.... |
I may keep it who knows, I feel comfortable with the my 21 because I know it is extremely reliable however the grip-angle just sucks ass, I like the 1911's much better, they just feel as if they were made by god himself. |
|
Glocks are ok for what they are, but after owning many of them, I came to the conclusion that the grips were modeled for an alien race. I still have a 19 and 26 though. If you are annoyed by Glock grips, chances are you will find comfort in holding SIG, Beretta, and HK grips, as I believe they're made with some thought to the shape of the human hand as well. |
|
1911's naturally point low for me. I'm one of the precious few who seem to LOVE the grip on a Glock. Side note - the actual angle is about identical. There's something else that shifts the aim for most people, but it isn't the angle. I don't know what it is, but I've placed my G19 and 1911 on top of each other and tne grip angle is identical. I even started a thread on it once, and somebody posted pics. |

Glocks have a lot going for them, some complain about grip angle, try a P08 Luger for a weird grip angle. High capacity magazines, Yes Sir !! But like Jeff Cooper said, if you hit what you are aiming at, the 1911 carries enough rounds for serious business. I just sold an excellent Glock 22 in .40 S&W because I didn't need it as I have two 1911s. But I had no complaints, just personal preferences. |
I'm trying to picture the glock in my head, the 1911 is straight for and aft but doesn't the G have a swell at the rear base and taper in up by the frame? |
How about laying the mags on top of each other? That might help clarify things. |
|
Since you are in an experimental mood... I recommend you try a Smith Model 27 (or any Smith .357) or an early model 29 with target hammer and trigger, or a Colt Python if you want to experience a superior factory trigger (try it cocked and squeeze-WOW). None sweeter. I know revolvers are not in fashion, but you guys are missing out. |
I love wheel guns. |
It was. The 1911 was designed by the Lord for the benefit of enlightened people. It was delivered unto the American people through his prophet John Moses Browning to deliver us from evil. There have been many attempts to create a better design but none have succeeded, |
Or perhaps not... I've fired (or owned) every popular handgun out there and I keep coming back to 2 types... 1911's and Sig P series. HK handguns do nothing for me. |
Quoting the Gospel is good for the soul |
|
I'm comfortable holding a Glock 20, a Desert Eagle, or a 1911. The 1911 works fine for big hands too... and conceals much better than a double stack. |
|
Burn the witch burn the witch!! |
NICE! Welcome aboard. Now you need to pray for the other Glock owners that don't know any better: "Forgive them John Moses Browning, for they know not what they do..." |
