The two main differences I see is Glock external extractor no grip safety. Xd internal extractor with grip safety. Also Glock has aftermarket parts, maybe XD will after more time on the market. My question is which is inherently more mechanically reliable concerning extractors and feed ramp orientation to the chamber. Or are they both just as good as the other and it comes down to which one you like more. |

Glock, because more XD grip safeties have locked up guns than Glock grip safeties XD's have more parts, and more parts that are prone to breaking. In terms of their ability to feed ammunition, I'm not a mechanical engineer, so all I can go on is what I've seen here and at the range. XD's have more issues, and thats that. |
| I think it comes down to which one you like more. They have different grip angles and some people like having the extra safety on the XD. Glock people will probably tell you XD isn't as wonderful but that's not much more valid than saying that Glocks will KaBoom. |

In the classes I've attended, Glocks and HKs tend to run very well. Sigs do well (they get sluggish after long days of training and need to be re-lubed more often). XDs run "OK" but I've seen them lock up numerous times - taking 2 guys to get the slide unjammed and turning it into essentially a good plastic and metal rock. I've also witnessed mag issues with the mags binding up when they get dirty and causing misfeeds. I would never recommend one as a defensive firearm. You should search for this question in the "Handgun Discussions" section. GD isn't the right place for this FWIW. Mike |

I can replace the extractor in my Glock in about 2 minutes without even hurrying. Can you do that with an XD? No, you can't. There are two reason why you can't: (1) removing an XD extractor is difficult; and (2) you can't even buy a replacement XD extractor. Early XDs had problems with broken locking blocks, extraction issues, and premature slide lock back. They may have ironed those out but I still give the reliability edge to Glock. On the other hand, XDs rarely explode.

Pretty much sums it up. |
FTR I have taken 3 local classes with my XD40 (no issues) and I have used it in many (20 or so) 2 gun and 3 gun matches with no issues not caused by my lack of ammo reloading skill ![]() I have seen a glock (.40) belch forth it's magazine and I have also seen a nicely appointed P220 lock up tighter than dick's hatband (ammo issues both times I believe) |
Excuse me while I pour gasoline on myself and jump into a bonfire. |

I have an early XD9 Sub Compact... It did have finish issues but I duracoated it "PARKER" Green and now it has no finish Issues and looks bad ass. I have yet to have a single stoppage in the gun in well over 4000 rounds. So for me I am sold on MY XD as it has yet to fail me. Now for the Glock 23 I had, it went 400 rounds andthen the spring for the slide lock broke. ![]() Not a big deal as the gun was accurate and relaible as far as I could tell in 400 rounds, but the grip angle killed it for me. I just felt like I was having to flex my wrists down to get it on point. I am going to add a Glock 21SF to the collection though. |
