Hello everyone.  Just got my first GoPro Hero3 and am looking for inexpensive editing software.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I'd really like to get Final Cut Pro, but it's quite expensive.  Is iMovie sufficient?

What about GoPro Studio 2?

If you hunt Amazon you can find Premier Elements 11 bundled with Photoshop Elements 11 for about 80 bucks.

I've never used it.  How does it compare to other editing software?

it's pretty basic. Are you on Mac or Windows?

so you're going to need the software it came with to export the footage, which also lets you clip it. You can then use iMovie (which is free) to do stuff with the remainder.

Personally, I pay the $30 for ACS so I have access to Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe Premiere.

I just tried with my GoPro 2 and iMovie can't handle the footage directly from the card. I'll try on my 10.9 machine and see.

OK. First, I installed the latest GoPro Studio. Then, I updated the firmware for the camera. Then, I plugged the camera in and iMovie imports directly from the camera. I chose "full resolution" but you can choose other settings. Once it's in iMovie, it's all good.

I'll try importing on my other mac (running 10.8) in the morning, but I suspect it was because my firmware is old that iMovie didn't automagically ask to import the file.

I messed around with gopro studio 2 for a while, it works well with the exception that you have to transcode to cineform to do any editing with it in GPS2.  The resulting .avi files are a bit bloated for me since Premiere Pro and AE CC handles gopro footage natively, but for some reason chokes on the cineform codec if I transcode it.

The Gopro templates do make it easy to get started with your footage, but the color correction capabilities leave a bit to be desired.
