I hit my drive 290 yards and my bud hits his drive 280.
He hits first and the slab of turf from the divot covers my ball.
What, if any relief do I get?

It's a loose impediment. Remove without moving your ball. Throw said divot in his face...

I don't know for sure but I would think you get to remove turf, lift clean and place the ball, and a penalty stroke for your partner.

LOL I am going to say no to that.  It is a loose impediment, I would really really careful your ball doesn't move.  But I am going to guess this is theoretical, not something that actually happened.  In a tournament you would simply call the rules official over for a ruling and to watch you remove the divot.

This did happen, it was my opinion that the turf pressed my ball into an unfavorable position. The fairway was very wet and the slab of turf buried my ball. I granted myself relief under "rub of the green", but I was called on this.

I believe this would be considered a loose impediment and you would be entitled to relief.
See "lump of earth" and "loose impediment" rules in PDGA rule book IIRC.

You must have the worst luck ever.  Why would you play rub of the green?  You can't move the turf or ball in that scenario, rub of the green just means play it as it lies?

He moves his own divot off your ball taking care not to move your ball. If he does move your ball, you may re-place your ball as close to the original lie as possible and play continues.

I'm guilty of this, 15 or 16th hole beer running low from the 9th and the leader in my usual foursome was talking shit. We decided to burry his ball by cart and had a group vote that he play it as it lay.

We don't play to be champions just hang out and enjoy the day and we laughed all the way to the 19th.

18-3. By Opponent, Caddie or Equipment in Match Play

a. During Search

If, during search for a player’s ball, an opponent, his caddie or his equipment, moves the ball, touches it or causes it to move, there is no penalty. If the ball is moved, it must be replaced.

b. Other Than During Search

If, other than during search for a player’s ball, an opponent, his caddie or his equipment, moves the ball, touches it purposely or causes it to move, except as otherwise provided in the Rules, the opponent incurs a penalty of one stroke. If the ball is moved, it must be replaced.

Cite the exception that would cause the above to not apply.

Then maybe 18-4 is more applicable:

18-4. By Fellow-Competitor, Caddie or Equipment in Stroke Play

If a fellow-competitor, his caddie or his equipment, moves the player’s ball, touches it or causes it to move, there is no penalty. If the ball is moved, it must be replaced.
