I am good to go. I had two ruptured discs in my neck and they were compressing the spine and the nerves to my right arm in a severe, excruciating sort of way. The dread of having my spine fused was pretty overwhelming. How the hell do you keep yer head on a swivel if it don't swivel? The Physician informed me there was a new procedure I might be interested in... Disc Replacement.

SNIP Gregory A. Hoffman, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and member of the SpineONE Medical Team at Ortho North East in Fort Wayne, Indiana, said, “The population of patients suffering from one- or two-level cervical disc disease is large, and Mobi-C has the potential to make a significant and positive impact to the treatment of those patients.”

SNIP Mobi-C(R) is the first and the only cervical disc replacement device received FDA-approval for the treatment of both one-level and two-level cervical disc disease.

L5S1 for the last 20+ years fucked up for me.  I refused surgery 13 years ago.  Wonder if this would work for me?

This looks like a superior alternative to fusion of cervical vertebrae. I am going to forward this link to a few relatives with this issue.

Have you had the surgery or planning on having it?

Not that the nhs would ever do it.

I had surgery on Thursday the third of July, I could have been home in time for the parade, but... a little too much drainage in the drain tube to take it out and risk swelling the throat...so I came home Saturday. Before surgery I could not turn my head or move my arm much, I had bones grinding in my neck...Not Good. Not having pain is a good thing. My lovely lady spoon fed me ice chips for two days in the hospital while I was recovering from the operation...I believe the internal ice bath eased a lot of swelling and pain I might have encountered otherwise. Ice! It Works! I am taking serious muscle relaxing drugs, so as to not be twitchy and tense, other than that I am Good To Go.

My mother had exact same procedure done last week.  Although post-op she had surgery discomfort, the killer pain she had was noticeably gone

Can you please explain an internal ice bath?   Sounds interesting.

I do not have the monetary breakdown yet. I am gonna guess that just one of the little bags of antibiotics they kept putting in my IV cost a days pay at least. I wonder what the shiny sterile ball peen hammer goes for, and is it reusable, or used once and considered "medical waste", because I bet that is a neat hammer.
I had a clear choice to make. Supercharged V-8 Challenger or pain free existence. I get the feeling the Dodge would have been the bargain way to go.

Internal Ice Bath = constantly keeping a little piece of crushed ice melting on the back of the tongue while propped up in bed lets the coolness get to the inflammation and ease a little of the soreness... Like putting an ice pack on a bruise, but you obviously can't cram an ice pack down your throat so you just let that icy water melt down in there and keep it cool. It helped.

I was wondering how long it would be until they got approval for cervical implants. They have been doing a similar device for lumbar for a couple of years. My wife had one put in at L-4 L-5 in 2009. Worked wonders for her.

This is good to hear as I am destined for neck surgery in the near future.

That's great!  I had a 3-level fusion last year & feel great, but that's easier for the lumbar region.  Looks like this is more logical for cervical surgeries.

I had 4 vertebrae fused in my neck using bone from my hip.  The relief was instant and the recovery was great.  My only lasting problem is rearward mobility in my neck.  I discovered in a 3 gun that I can no longer shoot prone as the stage was set such that I couldn't get my head back far enough to see through my optic.  I now roll over on my side or request a waiver from our understanding RO.

Had the same implants back in March, two levels.  They told me the surgery was outpatient and would take 2 hours!  it ended up taking alot longer and I spent 2 days in the hospital due to other complications.  Neck feels great and I healed up nicely...except for the constant nerve pain in my left arm.  It is better than it was before surgery, but the nerve is damaged enough it is causing weakness in my left arm.  It is no fault of the surgeon, just a result of the injury.  I have been on light duty since the injury late last year, not sure when I will be released for work.  For anyone considering the surgey, don't hesitate, its not worth the pain trying to live with it and you heal much faster than you would with a fusion.
