I work at a financial institution that has a lot of older PCs. The manager won't let the IT dept (us) replace anything until it is broke beyond belief. On to my question... We mainly have older Dell Dim 2400s or Optiplex SX270s. Is there any good hardware diagnostic tool out there that I can use on boot that will aid me in finding issues. I've tried the Dell Diagnostic Tool and it didn't pick up bad ram or HD. Any help is greatly appreciated. SE |

SE Are you using the on-board Dell Diagnostics (On the F12 Menu) or the software Dell Diagnostics you can boot from CD? I have had problems with Dell diagnostics in the past with bad sectors on drives and such, but over all it is a first good run tool as it tests displays, chipsets, fan, etc. Check out http://ubuntu-rescue-remix.org/ and other bootable Linux distros for other needs such as drive and memory tests. |
