I'd take a bunch of tungsten for Father's Day  but only in the form of fishing weights.

Get a 1" or 1 1/2" ball and make a monkey fist.

@MDI
What is the purpose of having a tungsten cube? A paperweight?

I gave my manager a piece of 1.250" diameter tungsten because he thought it was cool to have. I guess that is a good a reason as any.

Holy shit! My wife does that. And refuses to listen how it does not make the house heat up faster.
No matter how many times it's been explained to her by numerous people.

Same with the vehicle. Crank up everything full blast until it feels like an air fryer.
OP, have your wife buy a titanium cage for it, and you will have a 21st century pet rock.

Could be lead or mixture of pot metals that's the same density.

This , in theory they could have counterfeited it using :gold, or mercury (and some
Other metal to lighten  it maybe copper), . But it would
Be much cheaper to just use tungsten.

Oops, I thought mercury was denser than tungsten. I was wrong. Potentially osmium but cost becomes an issue.

Yes.  I’ve always been a fan of leather, cool gadgets, finely machined metal stuff, etc.

Do you have a geiger counter by chance?

Actually he is quite right. Lead is heavier than W so a combination of Pb and lighter metals will have the same mass as a W cube of the same dimensions.

You should probably look up the density of lead.

Do you work for an aerospace manufacturer in Ogden?

Why on earth do men argue with their wives over such trivial things?  What do you expect to accomplish?  Let her do what she wants if it isn't dangerous or fattening.

Geez, stop majoring on the minor issues.

I'm not sure you know what density is.

No, I take that back. I'm sure you don't know what density is.

You are mistaken. Tungsten is about 1.75x the density of lead.

No combination of the metals you listed will simulate the density of tungsten.

It's been a few years, but I recall it being on the order of $50,000.  The delivery guys were like: "WTF is this stuff?" because it came on a 1/4-sized pallet and was only 4" tall; I think the scrap value was enormous as well - ~$7/lb for what amounted to a little cup full of tungsten dust/shavings.

current scrap pricing for tungsten carbide tools is around $9/lbs. It was higher.

I have always wanted one of those fake gold bars made of tungsten, would make a neat conversation piece on my coffee table.

Here is my original thread.

Thread

She keeps saying she bought some tungsten rings one time that turned out to be fake.

I told her I know my cube is real because of how much it weighs in relation to its size.

A 1.5 inch tungsten cube will weigh what it weighs NO MATTER WHAT.

She keeps saying that it might be tungsten on the outside but something cheap in the inside.

SHE CAN’T GRASP THAT ISN’T POSSIBLE.

If it was something else cheaper on the inside it would WEIGH LESS than it’s supposed to weigh. And I have weighed the damn thing.

Lol it’s not that hard.

It is the density of Tungsten that makes it part of Project Thor I believe.
