Highway patrol. Issued a warning for "Improperly placed/obstructed license plate" because the plastic frame around the plate is partially obscuring the word "Texas". Is this a real thing? I've been driving the truck for 12 years and have been pulled over 3 or 4 times before and was never told this. I know, CSB and all that. Here's a pic of the offensive license plate: http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad12/zmccain/IMG_1937_zpsf8816bbd.jpg Haha, I'd cover it, too.

CSB First thing I ever do to a new car is replace that shit. No point in giving free advertising for someone else, especially if it looks like ass I buy my own chrome or black plastic frames right away, all dealer decals, license plate frames get thrown away. |

In Iowa, that cover would be obscuring the county name, but it doesn't look like you guys name the county in Texas. Guy just needed a reason to pull you over. If it wasn't that, he would find something else. You know how this works. See S.B. No. 369 I posted above. |

Actually, Texas law says that as long as 1/2 or more of the word Texas is visible, then it is not considered obstructed. EDIT: This is usually measured on the letter "X". In your case, it does not appear to be obstructed. So it is a thing then. I had no idea. You learn something every day! |

I would still guess that pulling someone over, solely for this violation, is more used as a foot in the door to check for more serious offenses. |

i've seen the traffic dudes do that in my town. Here is Fl state statute on it (i think). Seems pretty general and a catch all http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?mode=View%20Statutes&SubMenu=1&App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=license+plate&URL=0300-0399/0320/Sections/0320.061.html 320.061 Unlawful to alter motor vehicle registration certificates, license plates, temporary license plates, mobile home stickers, or validation stickers or to obscure license plates; penalty.—A person may not alter the original appearance of a vehicle registration certificate, license plate, temporary license plate, mobile home sticker, or validation sticker issued for and assigned to a motor vehicle or mobile home, whether by mutilation, alteration, defacement, or change of color or in any other manner. A person may not apply or attach a substance, reflective matter, illuminated device, spray, coating, covering, or other material onto or around any license plate which interferes with the legibility, angular visibility, or detectability of any feature or detail on the license plate or interferes with the ability to record any feature or detail on the license plate. A person who violates this section commits a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318. History.—s. 9, ch. 28186, 1953; s. 3, ch. 69-178; s. 192, ch. 71-136; s. 3, ch. 72-79; s. 7, ch. 77-357; s. 15, ch. 83-318; s. 33, ch. 96-413; s. 23, ch. 2007-196; s. 25, ch. 2010-162; s. 32, ch. 2012-181. My buddy told me that mine isn't good to go since it is a smokey looking cover. Been using it for 11 years on my neon w/o being pulled over though. It is super light, and easily visible even at night, but I bet someone will get me for it one day /shrug ![]() |

I was bob tailing in my company semi one day going home and got pulled over for not having a license plate.
I was all like WTF? Got out and walked around the front of the truck and was all like its right freaking there. Stupid cop thought it should of been on the back. |
| Whenever I buy a vehicle, I request all dealer adverts be removed, including the vinyl sticker they like to put on the back. For a short time I had a Z71 Step Side with hard cover, black with gold trim. I was pulled over by a neighboring PD and they recognized me when I got out (recently taught a class for them). They informed me while we were BS'ing that the reason for the stop was my clear plate cover, then told me it was really because my truck looked like one a drug dealer might drive. So yes, plate cover crap is just an excuse to justify a stop. |

Yeah, but the shuttle plate was the standard issue for a while. Then they went to the awful rainbow shit http://www.plateshack.com/y2k/Texas2/tx2011lighter.jpg And now they're back to what a proper plate should look like http://www.digitaltexan.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/texas-classic-license-plate.jpg Quoted:

I'm more perplexed by the space shuttle on the plate. Of all the things Texas could celebrate, they put that on their plate.
<----FL, USA. Texas has over 100 different plate styles to pick from. Yeah, but the shuttle plate was the standard issue for a while. In this case, that one is barely legal, but I wouldn't fault an officer for wanting a closer look since it's pretty damn close. Quoted:

Yep, illegal. Here anything that blocks the full view of the plate is illegal along with any covers, clear or tinted. <---tinted tag cover is an automatic cite from me. |
