Whitney. And it's not even close.
Her voice was something truly special. |

That woman has the voice of an angel. My first crush as a young man. Blue Bayou made me quiver in my BVDs. Early seventies Linda with cutoffs and bare feet was absolutely a dream. Soap, water and a little razor work and I would have consistently trimmed her toenails with a ceiling fan. |

Quoted: Geoff Tate, I believe. View Quote Interesting, as I lived through the entire eighties, as a huge music fan, and all the years since, and have loved the music. Yet, I’ve never heard of him. Sure, some research explains it, and I’m not poo-pooing on his abilities. But I had to Google his name to know who he freaking is. No disrespect, but how can he be the best if people of the era have not even heard of him? Maybe he’s the best un-appreciated? Maybe a solid case there. But I know you’ve heard of Whitney Houston. And most of the others mentioned. There’s a reason for that I think. Whitney wasn’t even my favorite ‘genre’ of performer. But My God… her voice was amazing. Gotta give respect where it’s due. |

I'm afraid OP is wrong and the correct answer is: Frank Oz, aka
Yoda, Fozzie Bear, Cooke Monster Bert Miss Piggy Sam Eagle Animal Marvin Suggs Grover (speaking of fighting, Grover was the worst muppet/Sesame Street character . . . fight me) Alice Otter and Chuck Stoat (IYKYK) Spies Like Us Test Instructor ("SIT DOWN") And also directed:Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, What About Bob and Little Shop of Horrors (a different kind of "voice", I grant you). |

Quoted: Geoff Tate, I believe. View Quote Geoff Tate slept in Bruce Dickenson pajamas, and was heavily enhanced by effects. If you saw QR live after Rage For Order, the vocals were barely “live” at all. Hell, I saw QR a couple months ago with the new singer. I suspect it was about 80% tracked - vocals, guitars, maybe everything. QR has become milli vanilli (maybe always was). There were a bunch of great voices in the 80s. Trying to pick a “best” one is silly. |

Natalie Merchant
Annie Lennox Aimee Mann But if the Cranberries had gotten Dolores O'Riordan a year earlier, she would win in a 1st round KO. |

For females it's Annie Lennox, a truly magnificent voice.
For males it has to be Freddie Mercury, although Perry is really close. Another excellent female voice, but probably wrong decade is Alison Krause. |
