In that case, I'm going with the age old adage....

I have them.  I like them.

I usually use them flipped over for the flatside.

They cook significantly hotter than standard grates.  More heat, better mallard.

I have two grills and a smoker and cook a several hundred pounds a year between parties at work and home. I grill 50 to 60 burgers every week year-round.

One of my grills is 50/50 between the grill grates and the old fashion opened grills. The grill grate side sees more use than the open side for burgers and steaks - beef products that benefit from the grill grates close proximity to the meat. The vaporizing drippings are held very close to the meat and pick up the flavor. Most in the General Discussion don't cook their beef so this might be a concern of theirs as the flames heat the grill grates and produce IR that cooks the meat. I don't use the funky spatula as I have no problem with my conventional one. Many of the grills sold today have the IR features that these will retrofit into an older grill. They do hold flare ups down very well as when cooking 20 burgers at once there tends to be lots of dripping flammable fat.

From the Alzheimers Association Myth Page
Myth 4: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reality: During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.

The claim that the grates intensify the heat is bullshit. You can't take a heart source and make it hotter by using aluminum. Aluminum is however a fantastic conductor of heat. I wouldn't use it over charcoal but over propane should be fine. I'm liking my new thick cast iron grates from the now defunct brinkman.

I have them.  They are anodized so non stick.  Shit stuck to mine very badly, and worse each time I tried to clean them, which was extremely unsuccessful.  Stuck shit robs heat transfer efficiency so claimed numbers are only for clean units.

I don't use them.

Most pellet grills use them as sear kits.

I can tell you with 100% certainty food is seared way WAY more with  Grill Grates than the standard stainless grates my Rec Tec pellet grill came with.  Ive burned well over a thousand lbs of pellets and there is no comparison.   My Rec Tec cant hardly sear at all without them.   It also takes longer to heat up with Grill Grates.

I use Mangrates and they're a necessity in my opinion. People love coming over to our house for anything grilled. I bought two, but I wish I had five to cover the entire grill. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Father's Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, etc. all have crazy sales on them. Subscribe to their newsletter and you'll know in advance when there's going to be a good sale.

I got my dad and FIL Mangrates and they would both agree with you.

Even my vegan SIL and BIL think grilled asparagus is better on Mangrates

Aluminum absorbs and transfers heat very quickly.
Cast iron will retain more heat but requires longer to get back up to temp

My main concern with aluminum is warping over time.
Although cast iron is guaranteed to rust.

This is arfcom get both

I use them w/ my Yoder pellet smoker.  Gives me the ability to grill.  They're ok I guess.  nothing really special about them.
