Since 1970 the reported inflation rate is 755%, but somehow medical care, housing, tuition, childcare, fast food, rent, insurance, home prices all went up, on average, about 1600%, and fuel and energy are up about 1200%. But, hey, it's all good. This lets companies keep their COLA low so this country can continue to fuck the middle class into the dirt. As long as Amazon's stock price keeps going up, we call it winning. And we all sit here and believe it while simultaneously mocking Russian's for their culture of believing the governments obvious bullshit lies. The way things are headed, we are about to expand our garden 4x and chunk off a section of pasture to raise hair sheep next year for meat. I have lost all faith that this county will, in 10 years, remotely resemble what it is today. Edit: Also, to add, their methodology is pants on head retarded. There isn't much that tracks increases in just necessities - so unless you blow fat stacks on luxury items every year, the reported inflation numbers mean jack fuck to you, because the massive decrease in electronics and luxury items keeps the reported number low (just ignore that two 16GB sticks of RAM cost about what an entire mid-range gaming PC cost 5 years ago). They also don't increase things like vehicles dollar for dollar. Now my car has bluetooth and a bunch of features I never wanted to begin with, so they claim I'm getting "more bang for my buck" and despite the fact that cars now cost 10x what they did in 1970, they don't call it a 1,000% increase. They pull some arbitrary number out of their dick to account for all the extra cheap bullshit they slap on vehicles these days. |

Along with all of the other nonsense that I was eating. Now I am older and wiser and am eating to maintain health and flexibility and strength and mobility. I can eat extremely high quality real food for less than $100 a week. Thankfully my wife subscribes the same lifestyle. So that $127 I posted above will feed the two of us for 5 to 7 days. Turns out grandma was correct when we used to go out to eat and she would get two to three meals out of each portion that the restaurants provided. I watched a small cow who couldn't get off her phone and actually load the conveyor belt put what was probably $400 worth of boxes and cans and colorful bags from her grocery cart for the checkout gal to process. The amount of fake groceries that she bought could create diabetes in a small village. If every member of my family needed to stitch two belts together to hold our pants up I'd be strapped for cash too. |

The other big problem for me now is not just food prices, of which I’ve always navigated around by being thrifty, but now learning about the poor quality of imported meat that trump is flooding the usa with, I am having an extremely difficult time finding usa origin beef or pork. Most everything at Aldi has no country of origin, which typically means south america. Last night I had drumsticks and mashed yellow potatoes. For me and my wife about $8-9. The little one eats only organic food. She is my priority in this life. |

Four ounces of pasta, a salad and some garlic bread is more than enough for a meal. Link I will admit to eating more than the recommended serving. I am trying to watch that and eat healthy. I am eating more Romaine lettuce with oil and vigner because it is healthier. |

I guess I'm not seeing it. My wife is pretty good about shopping cheap, but I pay the bills and see the spending. It's not significantly increased over the last year, at least to the point my monthly outlay at our local stores and Costco put on a graph looks pretty flat with some minor bumps related to supply. The pre-packaged foods that require little to no prep are expensive, but those are always expensive. |

Not as fast as we were last year, but that is also largely due to some very expensive end of life vet bills for our beloved Jack, the adoption of a new puppy and associated expenses, and our health insurance premiums going up $400 a month along with our out pocket and deductibles. Despite all of that, we are still moving ahead and recovering financially from the financial devastation that was my cancer battle nine years ago and her’s last year. We don’t take vacations, we take local staycations if anything. We don’t go out to eat a lot - yesterday we ordered pizza and picked it up as a splurge. We don’t buy prepackaged meals. We brew our own coffee we never buy it out. She drives a 2018 civic and I drive a 2020 Optima. We shop at Marshalls and Burlington Coat Factory for nice looking but discounted clothes. I have a cigar and watch habit that is expensive - not going to lie. And used to have a bad 2A habit, but I have what I want and can have, so it’s been 9 months since I purchased a gun or ammo. My watches and guns I can sell if we should ever need money, they hold value. Vacations, meals out, etc is lost money. We learned to live poor because we were fucking poor when I was dying. I thank God every day that I beat cancer, but the lesson remained. You can live without most of the shit many of us have. As a nation we have gotten soft as fuck in terms of expecting what we want, when we want it, how we want it, and for what we are willing to pay to get it. Those things are only possible over the long term when a nation is willing to weather some hard times to maintain its position in the world order. The fact is both parties kicked the fucking can down the road for generations and the time was nearly gone where we could stop a situation (or at least severely postpone) that would put our nation in a far FAR worse position that people think we are in now. Shit is going the way it is going to go and there is little if anything any of us can do to change it. What we can do is make sure we are in the best position to ride the wave until we get to calm seas. Or… you can bitch about how so and so sucks, and how it is not fair… or this isn’t what you voted for. NONE OF THAT will improve your status. |

FYI buying in bulk from specialty places (you know, like everyone did before walmart and supermarkets) isn't too bad. local place that butchers local chicken/beef and has a farmers market vibe offers different bulk meat every week. one week it will be fresh ground beef for $45 / 10lb roll. another week will be fresh chicken 40lb boxes, breasts for $76, tenders for $78. then 10 lb slab of bacon for $49. Place your order and pick up the following week. Once or twice a year I'll buy some and freeze it. Sure beats paying $10/lb for red slime ground beef from walmart etc. i guess my point is, we may be past the point where the efficiency of a one-stop grocery store is worth it, in terms of price and quality |

Some people burn a lot more calories. My BIL eats twice as much as me or his two adult boys. He is thin, almost underweight. The average adult needs 2,200 to 3,000 calories. Assuming some one eats three meals, 1,000 or slightly more calories at dinner is enough. |

Or alcohol, or soda, or anything except water. Seems pretty close to 2000 calories in a day, which is very reasonable for the average adult who works a sedentary job and works out for an hour after work. You don’t need to eat like a professional athlete to enter numbers into a spreadsheet and do 3 sets of bench in the evening. Even when I was working construction I was pretty satisfied with 2000-2500 calories a day. But I am not a fatass, today I weighed in at 184 lbs. I’m just a smidge over 6’ tall. I typically eat about 1800-2000 calories a day, farm, ride dirt bikes, play hockey occasionally and lift three times a week. No, I don’t bench 400 lbs, but I don’t want to. I find it much more useful to have a balance of strength, speed, long distance endurance and lighter weight. YMMV. |
