For the first time. Should I go trimmed beard, medium beard, or all out bushy beard?

I usually go all out until it gets too hot to handle it.
Being in Florida I would probably keep it trimmed longer. I do better with the cold than the heat.

Gonna need a trimmer too. Suggestions?

BTW OP we have a grooming and haberdashery forum here too.

Don't shave the cheek bones.  If you're gonna have a beard, have a manly one.

Also let the bottom grow to a point just above the collar.  Don't shave/trim it so you have a completely bald neck.

Promise yourself to not trim for at least six months.

If I could stand it, I would only trim once a year.  I just hate having my chin whiskers angled at 90* after I wake up.

bushy beard ftw!
Mine is so crazy I could probably stand on the street corner and solicit money

[#14]
Just let it grow, use some beard oil after you shower, resist the urge to trim it or shave until it actually grows to the point you can figure out what you want to do with it.

I have a Norelco trimmer from Walmart, about $30. I burn one up every 18-24 months, so I wouldn't recommend spending too much on one. I trim mine once every 3 weeks or so, around setting 14 on the guard. When/if you trim it, start on the longest setting and work your way shorter to the desired length. I've fucked that up a time or two thinking I knew what a few clicks shorter would look like

Get a Wahl trimmer with all the combs.   you don't have to do it that often

Women use trimmers on their beards. You aren't a woman, are you?

Maybe I'm just strange, but I get a better trim with a Wahl trimmer and a 6 or 7 guard than a 'beard' trimmer.  Paid $60 for what looked like a good trimmer at Walmart, ended up going back to the Wahl.

Just grow one and be done with it. Don't take the time to plan it like hipsters are today. Just let it grow and grow and grow and grow. Simple as that

You only do this to piss the ole lady off.  And bushy beard piss them off like no other.

Let it go wild.  I last trimmed mine in 2010 for my brothers wedding and it was a mistake.  But then again I live in the middle of nowhere and don't have to make a good impression on anyone.

Yeah, I do what I want, no need to consult here.

With that said, mine is patchy so I can't grow it out.

What if you aren't genetically inclined to a full beard?

No patchy spots yet. I have a balding head so I might as well grow it somewhere.

Grow a beard, or don't.

That in-between shit don't cut it.

Let it grow out then get it trimmed by a professional then copy what she did from that point on.

Beard trimmers are just to get the scragglies and evening out length. Not styling

I let mine grow wild, then I trim it up. Then get bored and shave it off only to regrow in a few months.

This is mine after about 4 months. I trim it just enough to keep it even at first, then just take care of it.
