At the round rock gun yesterday. It was really good. Lots of private sellers. The tables are always so funny to me. Like yesterday. - guns store - smoked meat - gas station knives - table with half non-replaceable museum pices including kar 98’s, Arisakas, CMP Garands, win 94’s 100 year+ old, 1873 winchesters etc. -gas station knives - gun store - table with non-replaceable heirlooms of old European pistols from a private collection including German 3rd Reich marked war service pistols and the only interest is from sketchy guys because the owner said these ones on this side are $300 each .  -purses -shirts -stickers If I had money

I remember the big gun show in Kansas City that I used to go to. The outer edge always had the beef jerky, knife sharpeners, gutter/roof repair/bath upgrade sellers, the gun insurance and tables selling tickets to win guns in raffles. We have one coming here at months end for 3 days that I'm going to. I wish it was a bigger show but we get what we can get here. |

I do love gun shows. In the 80s….my folks would drop me off (Houston) at the Albert Thomas convention center or the Astrohall one I was 11-12 years old when this started. Literally by myself and they would let me in. No cell phones. Just a plan for the exact moment I had to meet them to pick me up. I would eat up the tales of all the hero venders. Most were happy to tell them to me. Understandably, some were trying to work and didn’t have the time. I still go to most every gun show I can. I rarely buy anything. It’s a wonderful way to wonder away a few hours with the bonus of occasionally finding a new treasure. Perhaps it’s because of my age but the tall tales seem significantly fewer than from the 80s. The Internet has changed a lot in terms of the kind of tall tales people can tell. Older folks lie differently than younger folks. Older folks were high speed war heroes. (Some older folks still don’t get that they can be fact checked in real time) Younger folks are “bitcoin billionaires just working to have something to do…” (more nebulous in their tales because they know they can be fact checked in real time) The world sure used to be a different place and it was not that long ago. |

Same here. 2 close friends and I meet up for breakfast and wander around local shows. I stopped looking for "deals" at them 25 years ago but, if I do happen to run across one then, bonus! My intelligence isn't offended by the amount of "Special" Ops present just like my sense of economics isn't offended by the enormous amount of pride most vendors have for there wares (judging by their asking prices) We just enjoy it for what it is: an opportunity for old friends to enjoy a nice day out BSing, and looking at guns. That, and I really get a kick out of not showering for 3 days before a show, wandering around eating beef jerkey, crop dusting every other aisle, carrying an old barn rifle proclaiming "don't try to lowball me, I know what I got!"

I miss good gun shows. FKB's universal background checks pretty much killed them for Oregon. It's all overpriced dealer tables and mostly non-gun shit now. Sometimes I could find a mag I was looking for. I haven't been to one in the BLM/Antifa era. I wonder if that one asshole with the booth full of reproduction Nazi shit still shows up. Kind of doubt. [ETA] My first run-in with a tranny was at a gun show with my dad when I was a teenager, at the Portland Expo Center (back when this was actually the biggest and best gun show around). I was focused on all the guns and took a bit to notice that the old guy showing me this new .50 Beowulf cartridge had big-ass hooters!

I don't care about the dumb shit like the beef jerky, garbage quality stun guns and BB gun scopes. What I care about is that most of the actual gun or gun related items being sold at my local gun show cost about twice and even 3x as much as the same items online, even AFTER you factor in shipping/hazmat. Even powder is 3 times the cost of the same items online. There is literally no fucking reason to buy items at a gun show any more except if you are the type that only deals in cash and doesn't use the internet for purchases and are willing to pay a significant premium for doing that. How would you like a $600psa poverty pony for $ 1300? Well they got you covered. Like smokeless powder for 3times the cost available online? They got ya bruh. |

I haven’t been to one in a few years now, but the last one had all the usual staples: -The Chinese crap table -The definitely-not-a-Nazi-just-interested-specifically-in-German-history-from-that-particular-period table with all the Nazi shit. -The beef jerky -The bug zapper stun guns -The old guys just sitting around with their old as shit bolt action rifles and shotguns asking 4x market value -The hood rats trying to get their baby mommas to buy them guns -The tactical vet bro dbags -The former special operations folks -The ANTIFA types Makes for fascinating people watching. |
| I just don't understand the hatred that GD has for gun shows, but then again, GD hates everything that is pure Americana. I've had a table at a local Antique Arms show for many years-the best deals go down before the public can even enter, as we are setting up, or on Sunday, when sellers don't want to take their wares home again, or are eager to sell in order to buy something on another table they have had their eye on all weekend. I've gotten great deals on all kinds of things there-not just guns. Most of my Japanese sword collection has come from sellers there-just no substitute for holding it in your hands and closely examining it. I will admit the "modern" gun shows are a bit different, but I always seem to find something worthwhile at those,too. |

Don’t get me wrong, I used to enjoy going to gun shows a lot when I was younger and I’ll take my son when he’s old enough. For me, it was just a fun way to kill time with my old man. We even bought something occasionally. I think the internet has done a lot to kill gun shows honestly. Prices and values aren’t exactly a mystery these days, and most everything gun-related can be purchased online, cheaper, and without having to stand in line, buy a ticket, and deal with the hassle of trying to find what you’re looking for. Like everything, there’s deals to be found if you know exactly what you’re looking for and you’re familiar with what constitutes a “good” price. |
| I liked going to the 2000 table show at Market Hall in Dallas during 2000-2012. Some of everything. Took my first foray into Title II goodies there, always a deal if you looked, never heard a ND, and always got jerky from the same husband and wife. They made a good product. Crazy lines during the FBO years. |

Over 400 tables, and the place was packed when I left. Scored a good deal on a 1911 Gov't Model .45 I've been wanting, so I left with a smile on my face... |

Today, it may be as much me, as I don't really need or want anything, that I'm not seeing anything worth buying. And, there isn't much worth buying. The only time I hit the one up at the KCI Expo center, is if I want one of the soft ACE Case pistol holders. I don't need a $100 Mosin with a $700 price tag on it. I think the last one......no, no I didn't. I went to Frontier Justice to fondle a pistol (MAC 9 DS), that clarified I really wanted another brand/model (Tisas B9R) that I then ordered online. |
