S.649 can still be brought back to a vote at anything, its just the amendments that failed can never be added back. S.649 still has its own Fix Gun Checks section (Universal Background Checks that are stronger than the Machin-Toomey amendment). If another shooting happens, Harry Reid can instantly bring this bill back to the floor for an immediate vote. It does not have to go through a committee since it already has.

Don't know why everybody acts like this gun control bill is 100% dead. S.649 won't be dead until the new Congress in Jan. 2015. Everybody should still be writing their representatives to keep them on their toes.

That is silly...you do realize it's very, very close to having the votes required.  Please climb out from under your rock.

But also this.

I don't think we have to worry about a gun ban making it through Congress soon.  They've lost momentum.  We should be very worried about what the 2014 midterms will bring.  If you have a senator or congressperson in your area who made any effort to support this latest gun push and they're up for reelection......do everything you can to vote them out.  Find a good, pro gun candidate in the primaries and donate your time/money/effort.  We need more allies in Congress.

Government means to make you a slave. They can't do that if you're capable of effectively resisting.

Gun control will not be a dead issue as long as there is at least one man with a gun, and a liberal with a mouth.

If the 2014 elections can unseat some Dems because of their votes for this bill then it should cool them off to the idea of Gun Control for at least 6-8 years or more (like in 1994).

WE NEED TO MAKE A STATEMENT WITH THE 2014 ELECTIONS!

Pro-gunners just won a battle, the anti-gunners will try, try agan and again.

Remember, how many tries by the anti-gunners to get the 1st federal AWB in place during Bill Clinton's rein? And they had to do with a bit a trickery to get it passed.

So never let down your guard no matter what the anti-gunners and their news media allies say, they are just trying to lull the pro-gunner into a state of complacency, then WHAM! you got a new anti-gun law.

if "substantial" changes are made.  This is just posturing.  There is nothing the dems are going to change to make it less of an infringement on our rights.

Harry Reid's tweet
Today, we received a petition from over 1.4 million Americans who demand action on background checks. This fight is not over.

Nancy Pelosi's tweet
1.4 mill signatures sent to Congress to expand background checks on guns. Our bipartisan bill has 160 cosponsors:

What are there like 240 million people over 18 in the usa? And they could have the names of 8 year olds on that… Assuming it's all legal adults thats .58% of the population WTF do they think? At least the NRA just topped 5 million. (Still way to low in my opinion!)

Agreed. Someone replied to Pelosi saying "so, what. 1.6 million signed the petition to repeal Obama Care." It only matters when it is their agenda.
