The Lone Star Shooting Association (LSSA) is committed to helping the fight for gun rights around the world. I am writing this to inform my fellow US shooters of a major assault on the freedom of our Italian shooter friends to keep and bear arms. And the assault on US firearms manufacturers by the Italian gun manufacturers.
To fully understand what has happened I need to explain that until about one year ago the Italian Firearms Act Law 110 of 1975 forced every model of imported or foreign manufactured gun to be submitted to the Italian Firearms Commission before being put on sale. Permanent members of this Commission are representatives of Beretta (disguised as representatives of ANPAM – Italian manufacturer association), Tanfoglio (same), Pedersoli Muzzle Loading Firearms (disguised as a representative of Gun makers from the Brescia area) and Fiocchi. They were using their role in the Commission to hinder or delay importation of US made firearms. That provision in the law was cancelled about 10 months ago. And now the National Firearms Commission (and especially Mr. Davide Pedersoli, CEO of Pedersoli Firearms) is trying to reestablish the cataloging process and basically stop the importation of US firearms into Italy. This proposed measure is aimed at US made firearms and specifically the AR-15 family of rifles and it will force insertion of “military look alike” rifles into the sporting weapons class instead of the current “hunting weapons class” calling it an “emergency measure to fight criminals”. If this measure if passed would hinder the import of AR-15 style rifles made in foreign countries by subjecting them to a waiting period of one year before being added to the catalog by the Firearms Commission. The description of the firearm in the catalog is very specific and if something like different size muzzle breaks are used then it would have be submitted to the cataloging process again. Also, it would forbid hunting activities with these rifles because they would be relegated to “sporting” firearms and be subjected to handgun legislation with reduced possession rights of these guns (from unlimited to 6) and their ammunition (from 1500 to 200 rounds). Additionally, it would pave the way for further regulations against possession of this kind of firearms (especially US made). Our friends in Italy have an uphill battle on their hands. We have the opportunity and the obligation to help our fellow gun enthusiasts by telling the Italian gun manufacturers that the US will not stand idly by while our guns are essentially banned in Italy. 90% of Italian gun production is sold into the US market. Maybe if we refuse to buy their products, empty pockets will influence their position on this issue. Right now Italian gun owners are launching a boycott of Pedersoli. Beretta,Tanfoglio and Fiocchi products in Italy. LSSA proposes that this be expanded to include the US market. Mr. Pedersoli especially has been pushing for this measure for a long time because, for his own reasons, he’s convinced that AR-15 is not a “hunting rifle”. He has publicly voiced his opinion and is trying anything he can to have them banned in Italy. His position on the matter is widely known to everyone in Italy despite his public denial as he has been exposed more than once in the past by a major gun rights association. Moreover, article 6 of the Italian Firearms Act 110 of 1975 mandates the Ministry of Interior to request the written advice of The National Firearms Commission (Mr. Pedersoli is a member) before adoption of any legislation. He and the other Italian manufacturers have kept strict silence in public for months and supported it privately but they cannot claim ignorance anymore. Your deceit is now public. I will be contacting my representatives in the US Congress and officials of the Commerce and State Departments asking what can be done to protect US interests and specifically what pressure can be brought against Italian manufactured firearms that are imported into the US. Additionally, I will inform US manufacturers about this development. I suspect there may be some legal action that US manufacturers can take through the World Court system with respect to trade interference of US manufactured products. Your voice is important, tell Beretta, Tanfoglio, Fiocchi and especially Pedersoli Firearms that you will not do business with them and let them know why. Please contact Mr. Val Forgett III, CEO of Navy Arms (a staunch supporter of the right to keep and bear arms as a basic human right), who is the major importer of Pedersoli firearms in the US, to let him know what his supplier is doing against the freedom of honest Italian citizens and that you are displeased by that. who are we to say anything to the Italians? Doesn't the US restrict importation of foreign made firearms onto our soils?
Hate to be a buzzkill on this, but why not go after the restrictions on our own rights and freedoms, rather than waste time and effort to fight for someone else's? |

Okay. I want to apologize for making a first post, I didn’t realize that new people were frowned upon in the forum. I’m going to ask that the post be removed. lol, wut? I see two nonsensical comments, one serious statement, and a quote for posterity. Welcome to GD, I'm surprised there hasn't been more shenanigans. for the record, and totally out of my normal character, I would like to see a reply to my previous post. If you want GD to support your cause, you better come in swinging for the fences |

New people whose first post consists entirely of copypasta from another site are a little .ETA: Plus, there's that pesky Code of Conduct thing––you've posted copyrighted material in its entirety.

OP stop making Texans look like assholes, stop posting old chain e-mails, and for the love of God we have enough issues to deal with in the US without having to fight Italian citizens battles for them. They have the right to determine their own fate as we have the right to determine ours.
ETA: I already do enough drunken ramblings here to make all Texans look like assholes. |

Old thread is here
Basically Italian gunmakers fucked over their own countrymen. The major Italian gunmakers (Beretta, Pedersoli, a bunch of others) don't like "military" weapons, therefore they feel that no Italian citizen should own one, therefore they should be banned. And that's what they got done. Imagine we had a car commission in the states that was not beholden to Congress; what they said was law. Say Ford decided Chevies were undesirable and got the rest of the commission to agree with them. Bam, no more Chevy sold in the states, period. That's what the major gunmakers in Italy did. |

Ah, good old protectionism. You guys need to build your own AR lowers, then import everything else - then you have an Italian made gun, and Beretta can suck it. You should see the hoops we have to go through w/ our similar 922r regulations. Your only shot is to get perhaps the Philippines or China to sue Italy in the WTO for keeping out the cheap 1911's. Our administration won't help you, sorry. If you are going to organize a boycott, you need some Italian shooters that type good English if you're going to organize an American boycott. Gig 'em, backbencher |
