What is the inside scoop? Fudd oriented? I really don't need reviews exclusively on bolt action rifles, expensive sporting shotguns and handguns. Got an offer in the mail for an issue. Subscriptions are $20 a year.

I used to get it, then they tested some AR15s. If you are interested in what happens if basically a couple of guys from your hunting club buy a gun that they know nothing about, shoot it and write up a report it's okay. If I wanted a black powder cowboy revolver, or something else I really did not know much about, they aren't bad for basics; if it's something you are familiar with the rather thin level of expertise can set your teeth on edge.

I do like that they aren't pimps like most of the magazines.  If they buy a Springfield rifle and the receiver blows apart, they print it. Is guns and ammo going to do that and risk a big advertising contract? I don't know.

Years ago I subscribed when it was ten bucks or under  a years.I was almost going to do same, sell subscriptions to get money to buy new guns, shoot the piss out of them, write about them and continue the cycle and buy more.
Sooner or later they would probably write a feature on a gun you own and most are in just for that.Is a small magazine however and thin looking like a gun club publication or at least it looked like it when I bought

I subscribed to it and stopped reading it after three months. It had some interesting reviews, but it also reviewed some real garbage and gave it the highest rating because the one they got shot a few good groups. Meanwhile, every other test reported that the thing fell apart. No thanks.

They're not a Consumer Reports on guns.  Each writer is independent and there's consistency between how each writer evaluates the firearm.  They nitpick minor things for criticism and in giving the final rating.  I gave up on it years ago as I found I could learn more from the interweb.

Subscribed for a year or two, but I found myself at odds with their criteria, experience, and evaluations.

Geared more toward novices than experienced gun owners, and that's the biggest criticism I have.

Subscribed for a while, but did not renew.  Most reviews were in line with reality and they called it when a gun had problems.  It is a little thin for the money.  IMO you are better off with a sub to SWAT.  They are very honest in reviews and lot of good stuff between the covers makes it a better value.

I've read some good reviews there and some really weird stuff. I think much depends on which individual writer does the review. There's one guy who sticks out because both times he reviewed Makarov's he had the same weird malfunction. Then there's the time someone was reviewing an AK and marked it down because the dust cover came off during the session. I understand wanting to review "out of the box" but, jeez, I think it's OK for the shooter to make sure the dust cover latch is engaged first and shouldn't mark it down if the dust cover wasn't seated when the rifle came out of the box.

My biggest gripe with them was their inconsistency. They would review on gun and say it was horrible yet that same weapon would win a four gun comparison three months later.
