So here's my situation-- I'm PCSing from GA to TX in a few weeks. I plan to live on base while there, but may not get a house for up to a month from when I get there. That means I will be living in Temporart Housing (ugh). Personal weapons are not allowed in TH and must be checked into the base armory. Once I get my actual base house, I will be able to get my goodies back from the armory. Now, I dont want some A1C fumbling around with ANY of my guns, but ESPECIALLY some of my more prized pieces, most notably my collector grade HRA Garand, so the current plan it to leave maybe 4 or 5 of my favorite pieces with a buddy here in GA and have him FedEx them to me once I get a house. My question regards the legality of doing so without an FFL involved. I know you can direct ship your gun to a smith, and have it shipped directly back, but what about a private party shipping an owner his own guns? I checked packing.org, but it really doesnt cover somethign like this |
When I was station in Alaska, the local armory dude would take your guns out and shoot them for you. He was finally busted when they caught him packing out other folk's guns in his personal property shipment. ETA: He was an E-5 though. |
Seeing how the armory guys here (Highest ranking being a SrA) handle gov't guns that they are accountable for, i'd hate to see how they would handle guns that Uncle Sam doesnt even check up on in the first place, ESPECIALLY nice guns that they don't see every day (like a Garand). Anyway... so if I get this right: From: Me To: Me is OK From: Buddy To: Me not OK ? |
reporting instructions specifically state that the armory will not accept guns in cases- they must be un-cased for storage. |
