Last weekend, my elderly neighbor mentioned to me that due to eye issues, he had not been shooting in over three years.  Being the good neighbor that I am, and always looking for a reason to go to the range, I told him we would go.  Not to mention, he owns a 1915 German Luger, that I've been dying to shoot.   We went today.  He had a couple of pocket revolvers that he was wanting to shoot.  Both had rather nasty triggers and he was spraying them.  I had him shoot my Sig Scorpion, G19, and G43.   While not shooting the eyes out, he was getting fairly accurate.   There was an older guy in the lane next to us that was apparently teaching a young lady to shoot.  He seemed to be a decent shot at best, and had plenty of advice to give.   While my neighbor was shooting the G19, the guy walked over to me and said, "I've got some advice to give you.  If he will rotate his pistol to the side, it will tighten the tendons in his arm, and make him more accurate."   I looked at him and said, "Thanks, we've got this," and waved him off.   He looked like I'd slapped his momma, but went back to his lane and his own business.

WTF!!   Who in the heck does something like that?   As I mentioned, Wyatt Earp the guy wasn't.  Not to mention, my neighbor was just trying to find a grip for him that would work, with the blind spot in his right eye.  He could care less about a canted or upright grip.

By the way.....the Luger was magnificent.   German engineering at it's finest.

The only thing I ask us if people need help is when I see someone doing the "cup and saucer" hold. Especially women. After they learn the proper hold and hit the target more frequently and accurately, their eyes light up as I ride into the sunset.

I was minding my business at the range one day with one of my 1911's ...I had an ammo can with 500 rounds of .45 and a stack of Wilson mags ripping a lot of rounds down range trying to make sure there were no issues with a new barrel I had fit.....after about 30 minutes two guys next to me asked me if I could help them. They had an M&P something or other one of them had just bought at a big box store. I simply showed him how to grip the pistol properly....focus on the front sight and squeeze the trigger with the pad of his trigger finger. No more than two minutes and I said there you go. It felt good to see him realize an immediate improvement but I never would have opened my mouth had they not said something to me. I hate seeing people struggle with fundamentals but I see it a lot

He was just trying to look in control of the situation for the woman.  Don't read too much into it.

Yep.  But the key ingredient there, is that they asked you for a little help.  Not to mention, if the guy was over there dotting i's, if might have been a little different.
On second thought, nope.  It would have still tripped my trigger.

I can usually tell when someone is cross dominate and will offer them a solution if they want to hear it.  15 seconds and they shoot better.

Welp, its better than the guy next to you taking 2 (two) shots at 1 target and yelling "COLD" to stop the firing line and taking 5 minutes to put up 1(one) target and looking for 2 shell casings, and repeating about a dozen times.  Ugh.

I dont share with strangers, but often strangers come up to me showing me thier pistols, and like 'you wann shoot it?'.   No thanks.  just no.

Public ranges

I used to shoot at an uncontrolled public range in CA (Spenceville).  When the range was full, it was pretty cool, gun people shooting everyone's guns.

Last weekend I went to McHenry MS, some folks at the far end so parked near the other end as my rifle has a brake, this being the first time I shot it I wasn't sure how blasty it would be (McHenry rifle ranges are covered).  It was pretty loud noise banging down.  Two young guys parked at the table to my right with an AR pistol, WTF?

I was concerned about blast from a muzzle brake and they didn't realize how obnoxious that was in somebody's right ear.

They were ok guys, the AR pistol with an "adjustable brace" was a home build he showed me.  They didn't bring tape for their targets, gave them a roll.  But 10 rounds of that in my ear and fuck it, I dumped my last mag.  LOL it's raining brass.  Go sit somewhere else, the range is empty.
