| I'm thinking about documenting my guns. I've been collecting info like round count, twist, parts list, optics, serial number, pictures etc. Have any of you done this? Some of my builds were very complicated and I can't remember things like twist rate, feed ramps, etc. I'd like to have this information in a safe place and on my iPhone just in case. If you do this tell me how. |

I just use a couple of notebooks. I keep more extensive data on my competition rifles. The notebooks stay in the gun safe, with the guns. When i put the guns away after use, i can update the round count. I don't see the advantage of keeping these records on a computer. |

I have a reloading journal in one of those B&W hardcover grade school notebooks....I keep my load work up notes and round counts there. However, I use excel for a spreadsheet of all firearms and accessories.....with purchase price, serial #'s, date of purchase, etc. |

The advantage of keeping the records on a computer is that you can very easily distribute the file as needed for backup purposes. You keep your records with your guns...what happens when the record gets stolen with the guns? Do you pay your electricity bill via the mail? Drop by the post office and have a chat with the meat sack behind the counter while you buy a stamp and write the address on the envelope by hand? Then take your wagon home and pick up the milk delivery off the front porch? |
