I keep most of my good stuff in my basement. I run a dehumidifer and it keeps the humidity at around 38%-43%, depending on the time of year. So far, no rust or other consequences.

I keep my safe in the garage.  Outside relative humudity now is 78%.  Inside safe hygrometer is reading 54%.  I use a Golden rod and re-chargable dessicant.  I figure they're a lot better off inside my safe in the garage then they would be in a gun cabinet.

ETA: I believe less than 60% is acceptable.  I stand to be corrected on that though.

40% is pretty low actually.

If you've got wooden stocks you've got to watch getting too low.

I've read here under 50% is good for keeping rust from developing.  I have to run a dehumidifier  3 seasons to stay that low.

Nope, no stocks.. Just plastics... I feel better now.. I thought Id need to get down to like 15% or something like that...

I use those Tidy Cat dessicant crystals in a sock in the bottom of the safe..Big jug is about 7 dolla joe at the grocery store.
